Elma Schrader (right) was recently honored as the Jefferson-Scranton Education Association’s Friend of Education. Kindergarten teacher Denise Kennedy (left) made the presentation.
Schrader has volunteered at the elementary school for 17 years, many of them in Kennedy’s classroom. She has read to countless students, listened to them read, and given individual help with phonics.
“Following her retirement, Elma continues to give of herself to the community by helping shape the lvies of our youngest students, giving them a positive role model for the future,” Kennedy said. “When working with 20 children, having two adults in the room allows the teacher to concentrate on those children needing more attention, knowing that a great volunteer is there to help the others continue to practice their skills.”
