Farm Bureau Young Farmers invited on Chicago trip

Greene County Farm Bureau Young Farmers will gain a thorough understanding of how the futures markets work by watching commodity trading in action during a trip to the Chicago Commodity Exchanges July 15 – 16.

Farm Bureau members and spouses ranging in age from 19 to 35 years old are invited to register for the trip.

A chartered bus will leave the Iowa Farm Bureau office in West Des Moines on Tuesday morning, July 15, and arrive in Chicago late that afternoon. The evening will be open for dinner and sightseeing.

Participants will visit the Chicago Commodity Exchanges on Wednesday, July 16. They will watch the opening of the markets where staff will explain trading pit activity, observe trading action, learn about the history and function of the Exchanges, and observe the closing of the markets.

Also included on this trip is a tour of Fair Oaks Farms, a state of the art dairy and hog farm built to tell the story of agriculture.

The group will leave Chicago later that afternoon arriving in West Des Moines that evening.

The registration fee which includes lodging and transportation is $110 per person. However, Greene County Farm Bureau will pay half the cost ($55) for up to four young farmers or two young farmer couples who wish to attend. Participants will be responsible for their own meals.
