Large turnout expected for “Color Out Cancer” 5K run/walk

Color Out Cancer logoOrganizers are pleased by the enthusiastic response to early registration for the Relay for Life “Color Out Cancer” 5K fun run/walk, which totaled 173 participants as of April 1.

The 5K fun run/walk is open to people of all ages and abilities and promises to be a highlight of the Relay for Life, which is scheduled for Saturday, April 26.

Check-in and registration for the 5K fun run/walk will begin at 9:30 am at the
Greene County Community Center, 204 W. Harrison St, Jefferson. Included with each registration will be a special white T-shirt (with the logo shown), a ticket for a free meal, and other goodies.

The traditional Survivor Walk is scheduled to take place at 10:20 and the runners and walkers will begin the 5K course at 10:30.  Along the route, information will be posted to raise awareness of various cancers and the colors that represent them.  Then volunteers positioned at various checkpoints on the course will shower the participants with colored powder representing five different cancers.  The goal is to cross the finish line covered with color.  A photo stop and clean-up station will be available outside of the GCCC at the conclusion of the route.

The sponsors for the “Color Out Cancer” 5K fun run/walk are AAI/Spalding with parent company of Fruit of the Loom, ShineOn Designs, Joe’s Body & Paint, Peoples Trust & Savings Bank, Power Lift, Home State Bank, and Quad County Ag.

It is not too late to register for this exciting new addition to the Greene County Relay For Life.  Information is available at local libraries and the Greene County Community Center.
Entry fees are $25 for ages 13 and older/$15 for ages 12 years and under.
Checks should be made payable to American Cancer Society.
