A ceremonial groundbreaking for Greene County Medical Center’s expansion and renovation project is slated for Thursday, April 3, at 3 pm on the south side of the medical center. Medical center chief executive officer Carl Behne told the board of trustees last week that the event might not be the actual start of the building project, but a celebration of the work that has been done and a kick-off for what is yet to come.
The public is invited to the groundbreaking, and refreshments will be served following the ceremony.
At the regular March meeting of the board of trustees, Behne gave his commendation to the board of trustees. “I want to commend this group, the board, and your vision to get us to where we are with the building project, and a lot of other initiatives,” Behne said. “The vision of the board, your commitment to our strategic plan for the future. It’s been a long two years to get us to where we are, to get us to two more years of work. I really appreciate your commitment, time and extra effort to get us to where we are.”
The $22.5 million project will add 44,600 square-feet and remodel nearly that much space in the existing facility to optimize its usefulness in the changing healthcare arena. Most of the work will be done on the east end of the campus.
The project is funded with an $18 million USDA loan, a $2 million loan at Home State Bank guaranteed by the USDA, and a capital fund drive with a goal of raising $4 million. The capital campaign, “Investing in Tomorrow’s Care,” was jump started with a $2 million anonymous donation announced in February.
