A total of 32 readers joined discussions of Jessica Brockmole’s Letters from Skye last week. Discussions were led by Jan Scharingson at the Grand Junction, Paton and Jefferson public libraries in the Greene County Reads project.

Scharingson has led the discussions the past several years. She said it’s always interesting to her that the discussions are so varied, depending on the people who attend.

The Iowa Center for the Book, part of Iowa Library Services/State Library of Iowa initiated the All Iowa Reads! program with the encouragement of Christie Vilsack while her husband Tom was governor of Iowa. The Greene County librarians decided a few years later to continue to promote and make available the All Iowa Reads! selection, and to choose another book for local discussions. The Greene County Reads book is selected by a committee of librarians and Scharingson. Scharingson said she always welcomes suggestions of books for Greene County Reads.
