Free admission, $2 off concessions for first 100 to register
Greene County teens in 6th through 12th grades are invited to attend a special showing of the movie “Divergent” on Friday, March 21, at 4 pm at the Sierra Community Theatre in Jefferson. The first 100 teens to register at their local library will be admitted FREE and receive a coupon for $2 off a purchase at the concession stand.
This new movie is based on the book “Divergent,” the first book in a series by Veronica Roth.
The book and movie are set in a dystopian Chicago where young people must choose between five factions of society when they turn 16 years old. Each faction is dedicated to a particular virtue – honesty, selflessness, bravery, peace, and intelligence. Together, the teens go through extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. The main character, Tris, must determine who her friends really are and how an unexpected romance fits into the life she’s chosen. Tris also has a secret, one that might help her save the ones she loves … or that might destroy her.
“This book series is one that both teens and adults have liked and they are all eager to see the movie,” said Scranton librarian Ashley Squibb. “We’re very glad to be able to partner with Sierra Community Theatre to make this event possible for the teens of Greene County.”
Last year the libraries hosted a Hunger Games event, also based on a series of books. They hope to sponsor a county-wide teen event each year. This teen event is co-sponsored by the public libraries of Greene County and the Greene County board of supervisors. Please contact your local public library for more information.
