The Greene County varsity girls and boys teams both lost close home games against the North Polk Comets Tuesday, Jan. 7.
The girls lost 46-42. Hannah Onken led in scoring with nine points. Kayla Mobley and Thea Ballard each scored seven points.
“North Polk is a tough team. I was really proud of our girls’ efforts. We had the right strategy going into the game and maintained it throughout the game. We just came up a little short at the end,” said head coach Chad Morton. “I am happy how well we are competing with the top half of our conference coming off our holiday break. If the girls continue to work hard I know we can finish stronger in these close games.”
The boys lost 82-77 in overtime. Senior Landon Braun scored 20 points, including five 3-point shots. Freshman Trey Tucker scored 19 points.
The girls are now 5-4 overall and 5-3 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. The boys are 1-6 overall and in the HOIAC.
Both teams take on Saydel on the road on Friday.
