JPRD tells upcoming programs

The Jefferson park and recreation department announces three upcoming programs.

The popular winter mini cheerleading program led by Ann Ostendorf and the Ram cheerleaders will be held Tuesday, Jan. 14, and Thursday, Jan. 16, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at Jefferson-Scranton elementary.

The young cheerleaders will showcase their new skills at half time of the girls basketball game Friday, Jan. 17.

The energetic class is for boys and girls in grades pre-K through 5.

Peg Raney will again offer iPad classes. Beginning iPad and More iPad classes will be offered Wednesdays Jan 15 through Feb. 19. Beginning classes will be available from 10 to 11 am or from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. The class is a good introduction for anyone who received an iPad during the holiday season.

The More iPad class will allow users feeling comfortable with their iPad to explore more possibilities. More iPad will meet from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Participants in iPad classes should have an iPad. Classes meet at the Greene County Community Center.

Raney will also offer guitar lessons for all ages (fourth grade and older) and abilities. All participants must have a working guitar and be willing to practice outside of lessons.

Two different levels will be offered Tuesdays Jan. 14 through Feb. 18 at the Community Center. Beginning lessons will meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Participants will learn 10 basic chords, how to strum the guitar and play some simple songs.

The advanced guitar lessons will be from 6 to 7 pm. Guitarists should know the 10 basic chords and be ready to practice switching chords faster, adding a few more basic chords, and simple picking patterns.

Persons who would like more information about mini cheer, iPad classes or guitar lessons can visit the Community Center at 204 W. Harrison in Jefferson, call 515-386-3412, or email parkrec@netins.net.
