Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 19, at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson for Sheila Kay Runkle, 66, of Jefferson.

The Rev Linden Wendzel of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson will offer words of comfort. Honorary bearers will be Earl Williams and many beloved co-workers.

Joan Canady, 1930 – 2017

A Service of Remembrance was held July 29 at First United Methodist Church in Jefferson for Joan Canady, 86, of Solon, formerly of Jefferson.

Words of comfort were offered by the Rev Julie Poulsen, pastor of the church. Sheryl Sloan was organist with David Petersen as soloist. Honorary bearer was Larry Turner.

Rita Reis, 1925 – 2017

Mass of the Resurrection was held July 28 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Jefferson for Rita Ann McDermott Reis, 91, of Perry.

Celebrant was Fr Jeff Schleisman. Wayne Ahern was lector and Rachel Ahern, Sarah Goodchild and Megan Romens were gift bearers. Altar servers were Donivan and Sullivan Tighe. Soloist was Amy Roberts with Lois Last as accompanist.

Margaret Last, 1922 – 2017

A Service of Remembrance was held Monday, July 17, at First United Methodist Church in Grand Junction for Margaret Mae Last, 95, of Jefferson, formerly of Grand Junction.

Pastor Steve Ransom offered words of comfort. Sheilah Pound was soloist, accompanied by Keri Brooker. Honorary bearers were Andy Foster, Phoebe Renslow and Sue Ann Blackburn.

Edwardson, Naylor wed

Rev Bruce Espe, Patti and George Naylor

Patti Edwardson and George Naylor were joined in marriage the evening of June 3, 2017.

The ceremony took place on the Naylor farm in their new organic apple orchard. The Rev Bruce Espe, a friend of the groom and a Soto Zen Buddhist priest, officiated. A Service of Remembrance was held June 24 at First United Presbyterian Church in Grand Junction for Beverly Rose Boorn, 87, of Jefferson.

Pastor Tere Erickson offered words of comfort. Meladee Graven was soloist, accompanied by Janet Wills. Honorary bearers were Rose’s card and coffee club ladies.

Pat Fields, 1970 – 2017

Services will be held Tuesday, June 20, at St Joseph Catholic Church in Jefferson for Patrick Fields, 46, of Jefferson.

Patrick Duane Fields was born June 26, 1970 in Jefferson. He was one of four children born to Jerry and Mary Jane (Walter) Fields.

Pat grew up on the family farm near Paton. He worked diligently in all of the farming jobs, including riding beans, detasseling corn, and cleaning hog crates with his siblings. While most of Pat’s time was spent on the farm, he also played high school baseball with the Paton-Churdan Rockets. Pat graduated from Paton-Churdan High School in 1989 and completed his degree in ag studies at Iowa State University in 1993. Continue reading Pat Fields, 1970 – 2017

A graveside memorial service was held Saturday, June 10, at the Jefferson Municipal Cemetery for Dennis Lee Semke, 71, of Carroll.

Mass of the Resurrection was offered for James F. Riley, 67, of Jefferson Monday, June 5, at St Joseph Catholic Church in Jefferson.

The Rev Jeff Schleisman, pastor of the church, was celebrant. Lector was Sue Wind and Kate Hardigan presented the offertory gifts. Music was provided by the St Joseph guitar group, soloist Dustin Hall accompanied by Wes Anderson, and brass music by Wayne Lautner, Peg Semke, Mark Rasmussen and Wes Anderson.
