Jack Teagarden, 1948 – 2018

John Charles Teagarden was born in Jefferson, IA, Oct. 18, 1948, son of the late Wilbur and Gladys Potter Teagarden. He was welcomed by sister Ruth and brother William. Soon brother Joel joined the gang, followed 10 years later by Baby Janna. John was soon nicknamed Jack, or fondly, Jackie, by his mother.

Growing up in Grand Junction, Jack, a red-haired, left-handed tyke, joined his brothers and friends in many adventures. Sports were an early love, especially baseball. He played from morning until night on the local diamond and every Little League team available.

Dean McAtee, 1932 – 2018

Funeral services will be held Nov. 29 at Central Christian Church in Jefferson for Dean McAtee, 86, of Jefferson.

Words of comfort will be offered by the Rev Sheldon Henderson, pastor of the church. Honorary casket bearers will be members of the Jefferson Kiwanis Club.

Doug L. Walker, 1947 – 2018

Douglas Lorn Walker, the son of Roy and Phyllis (Clements) Walker, was born January 31, 1947 at Jefferson, Iowa and left this life November 4, 2018 at the Iowa University Hospital in Iowa City. He lived his life to the age of 71 years, 9 months and 3 days.

Doug grew up in the Jefferson area and attended and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1965. He helped his father with the family farm during his youth. He later attended Iowa State University in Ames. On September 14, 1968, Doug Walker was united in marriage to Kathy Grow at the Lutheran Church in Hudson. Two sons were born to this union. Billie Wind, 1932 – 2018

Memorial services for Billie Wind, 86, of Jefferson, were held Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Gospel Open Bible Church, Jefferson.

Interment was in the Greenbrier Township Cemetery.

Billie Jean Wind, daughter of Peter and Bessie Anfinson, was born on April 24, 1932, in Perry. She was the sixth of nine children born into a very close, loving family.

Betty Schaal, 1932 – 2018

Betty Schaal was born on the solstice, June 21, 1932, at home in Indianola, to Roy and Ethel (Lane) Whitehead. She passed from this life October 26, 2018, at the Greene County Medical Center long term care facility in Jefferson She lived her life to the age of 86 years, 4 months and 5 days.

Betty was the youngest of four girls in her family. She graduated from Indianola High School in 1951 and worked for brief time for United Airlines prior to her marriage. On June 21, 1954, Betty Whitehead was united in marriage to Carroll (Bill) Schaal Jr. of Jefferson at the Methodist Church in Indianola. To this union were born three children. Sylvene Hatfield – 1945 – 2018

Mary Sylvene Hatfield, daughter of Edward and Mary (Coan Connelly) Geisler Jr., was born on October 12, 1945, in Carroll and left this life surrounded by her family on October 20, 2018 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.  She lived her life to the age of 73 years and 8 days.

Herbert Drachenberg, 1929 – 2018

A graveside funeral service for Herbert Drachenberg, 88, of Jefferson will be held  Saturday, Nov. 3, at 10:30 am at the Jefferson Cemetery. Pastor Dennis Martins of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson will officiate.

Herbert was born on Nov. 6, 1929, in Bristol, CT, the second of four children of Emily and Robert Drachenberg, three of whom preceded him in death. Travis Crouse, 1979 – 2018

A funeral service was held Oct. 18 at St Brigid Catholic Church in Grand Junction for Travis Dale Crouse 39, of Dana.

Words of comfort were offered by Deacon Luke Tieskoetter of the Basilica of St John in Des Moines. Lectors were Connie Burkett and Brayton Crouse. James Cory gave the eulogy. Music was provided by Basilica choir friends directed by Lois Brookhart and accompanied by Sheilah Pound.

Casket bearers were Brayton Crouse, Colton Crouse, Megan Smith, Jason Richards, James Cory, Andy Krieger, Chad Stoline, Dwight Marshall, Steve Hillman and Rod Hogueison. Interment was at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Grand Junction. Continue reading Travis Crouse, 1979 – 2018

Larry Tourte, 1937 – 2018

A celebration of the life of Larry Dean Tourte, 81, of Paton was held Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Salem United Methodist Church with Rev. David Arulnathan officiating. Doyle Carlson was soloist and Danille Curtis as organist. Honorary casket bearers were Gordon Roese, Wilber Schumaker, George Ziehm and Ron Delance.

Serving as casket bearers were Roger Wessling, James Sandberg, Daniel Johnson, Darwin Grow, William Clarke and Jack Fredrickson. Burial with Navy military honors were made in the Paton Township Cemetery near Paton. Continue reading Larry Tourte, 1937 – 2018

Charles Radke, 1932 – 2018

Charles (Chuck) Radke, age 86, was born October 7, 1932, in Sterling, IL, the only child of Gladys and Dillard Radke. He died October 12, 2018, in Jefferson.

Charles had a great passion for music. He majored in music at Drake University where he met his spouse of 64 years, Virginia Ann Lee, who shared a great love of music. Together they settled in Grand Junction and had three children: Ruthanne, Susan, and Steve.

A Celebration of Life was held at The Dwelling Place in Jefferson for Paul Pope, 76, of Jefferson.

Maria Lynch, 1951 – 2018

Maria Cristina Ghirardelli Lynch, 67, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Thursday, October 4, 2018 at her home.

Maria was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, on April 21, 1951, to the late Alfredo Ghirardelli Camiruaga and María Elida González Fruniz. Maria graduated from Deutsche Schule German in Montevideo.
