Francetta Mae Stream, 1927 – 2019

Francetta Stream, the daughter of Floyd and Margaret (Marsh) Fountain, was born April 26, 1927, at her parents’ home near Grand Junction, and departed this life September 11, 2019, at The Gardens in Jefferson. She lived her life to the age of 92 years, 4 months and 15 days.

Geneva Whiteley, 1929 – 2019

September 11, 1789, Alexander Hamilton was appointed the first Secretary of the Treasury. On Sept. 11, 1792, the “Hope Diamond” was stolen. On Sept. 11, 1941, ground breaking had begun for the Pentagon, the future home of the Department of Defense, 60 years to the day before it was attacked along with the World Trade Center.

Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019, (8 months to the day of Jr passing and 18 years to the day of the Twin Tower attack) Geneva Frances Whiteley, age 92, was welcomed into heaven by her husband of 69 years, Jr Whiteley; her parents Aaron and Ina Ockerman; her brother Lowell Ockerman and his wife Virginia Ann; her sister Lois Morrett and her husband George, Anna Mae Tonelli and her husband Charles, and Nellie Darlene Ockerman; her niece Cynthia Morrett; her nephews Andy Morrett, James Morrett and Gary Whiteley; and many friends from the old Jefferson neighborhood. Lawrence Marshall, 1934-2019

Longtime Jefferson physician Dr. Lawrence “Larry Doc” Marshall, 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 1, 2019, at the Greene County Medical Center.

He was beloved and respected by his family, friends and community for a life defined by intelligence, compassion and integrity.

Lawrence Lynn Marshall was raised and attended high school in Colfax, IA. As an undergraduate at the University of Iowa, he met and married Ms. Audrey Thomas in 1958. He would go on to earn his MD in 1960. Continue reading Lawrence Marshall, 1934-2019

Betty Gunion, 1930 – 2019

A Celebration of Life service was held Aug. 24 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson for Elizabeth “Betty” Gunion, 88, of Marion, formerly of Grand Junction.

Pastor Jim Barnett of Jefferson offered words of comfort. Danille Curtis wias pianist. Honorary bearers were Todd Busch, Woody DeForest, Tom Butler, Scott Butler, Lawrence Rold and Harold Osterman.

Sandy Scheuermann, 1954 – 2019

Sandra Kay Rice Scheuermann, daughter of Ruby and Bill Haynes and Don Rice, was born June 30, 1954, in Jefferson. Sandy died August 18, 2019, at her home in Scranton, Iowa with her family by her side. She was 65 years old.

Sandy grew up in Jefferson and graduated from Jefferson High School. She had a love for learning and over the years continued her education by taking online classes with Purdue University Global and was close to finishing up her bachelor’s degree before she became ill. William Lawton, 1933 – 2019

A celebration of the life of Bill Lawton, 86, of Cooper was held Saturday, Aug. 24, at 11 am at the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson.

Words of comfort were offered by Pastor Larry Monthei of Hope United Methodist Parish. The eulogy, “Inspiration through Action: Family, Farming, Food and Cyclones,” was given by Rob Lawton.

Theodore Ely, 1937 – 2019

Theodore Leroy Ely of Jefferson was born to Everett and Henrietta (Gibson) Ely in Guthrie County on January 6, 1937.

Ted was very talented in a number of disciplines. He was a builder, craftsman, and an arborist. He planted thousands of evergreens that he produced around Greene County that can be seen protecting farms from bitter north winds to this day. Eula Mae Hicks, 1922 – 2019

Eula Mae (Anderson) Hicks was called home just five days shy of her 97th birthday, August 3, 2019. Eula was born August 8, 1922, to Herbert and Delia (Bishop) Anderson, on the family farm in Greene County..

While working as a soda jerk in Churdan, Eula caught the eye of Milton “Red” Hicks and the two were united in marriage July 5, 1946. Red and Eula would welcome four children into the world; Donald, Beverly, Donna and Milton “Butch”. Continue reading Eula Mae Hicks, 1922 – 2019

Betty Larson, 1930 – 2019

Services were held Aug. 10 at First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson for Betty Jeanne Larson, 89, of rural Jefferson.

Words of comfort were offered by commissioned pastor Wendy Pittman of First Presbyterian Church of Jefferson and Pastor Larry Monthei of Hope United Methodist Church of Cooper. Gary Haupert was soloist, accompanied by Cheryl Nailor. Honorary bearers were Jami Szwejk, Leslie Welter, Levi Larson, Lakota Larson, Haily Larson and Autumn Larson.

Doris Holz, 1928 – 2019

Services will be held Aug. 6 at First United Presbyterian Church in Grand Junction for Doris Jean Holz, 91, of Rippey.

Donna Blair, 1932 – 2019

Services were held Aug. 5 at St Joseph Catholic Church for Donna Blair, 86, of Jefferson, formerly of Paton.

Father John Gerald was celebrant of the Mass of the Resurrection. Sheilah Pound was soloist, accompanied by Lois Last.
