Scott Brackett, 1965 – 2019

Funeral services were held January 12 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson for Scott Brackett, 53, of Jefferson. Interment was in the Jefferson Municipal Cemetery. Pastor Larry Rupp officiated. Vocalists were Cheryl Rupp and Lynn Eubank. Sheryl Sloan was the accompanist.

Scott Dean Brackett was born July 22, 1965, in Jefferson and passed away January 9, 2019. He was 53 years old. Scott grew up in Chariton and graduated from Chariton High School. Shirley Hamilton, 1943 – 2019

Shirley Hamilton, the daughter of Leslie and Olive (Ressler) Allen, was born May 13, 1943, at Carroll and left this life January 3, 2019, at her rural home near Churdan. She lived her life to the age of 75 years, 7 months and 20 days.

Shirley attended and graduated from Churdan High School in 1961 and later attended Burnell College of Cosmetology in Fort Dodge. Kent McWilliam, 1936 – 2018

Kent Sutton McWilliam was born in Jefferson, IA, on December 15, 1936. He lived his life on his family farm in Paton. He graduated high school from Paton Consolidated in 1955 and left the farm briefly to attend college at Iowa State University in Ames.  After one year he transferred to Arizona State University in Phoenix, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in agronomy with a minor in chemistry. Kent returned to the farm in Paton and continued to farm with his father, Wiltse McWilliam, for the next 20 years and then took over all farm operations for the rest of his life.

In 1958 Kent married Suzanne Clopton of Jefferson. In 1959 they welcomed a baby girl, Ann Marie, and in 1964 they adopted a son, Todd Kent. Kent and Sue were married for 20 years and divorced in 1978. Kent shared the majority of his life with lifemate Mary Tilley of Boxholm until her passing in 2016. Clifford E. Said, 1937 – 2018

Funeral services will be held Dec. 21 at the First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson for Cliff Said, 81, of Jefferson.

The Rev Gordon Moen will officiate. J.B. Hinote will be soloist, accompanied by Keri Brooker.

Casket bearers will be Les Fister, Steve R. Smith, Aaron Walker, Jonathon Smith, Bill Berger and Bob Smith. Interment will be at the Scranton Township Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted at the church by a U.S. Navy honor guard.

Dean Imler, 1932 – 2018

Dean Imler, 86, of Jefferson, died December 17, 2018, at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. Graveside and military rites were held Saturday, Dec.29,  at Jefferson Municipal Cemetery,  with Pastor Larry Monthei presiding.

Dean LeRoy Imler was born Feb. 25, 1932, in Perry. He was the son of Preston and Grace (Snibley) Imler. Dean graduated from Perry High School in 1951 and immediately entered the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged in March of 1955.

On June 5, 1955, Dean was united in marriage to Shirley Wailes at the First Christian Church in Perry. Dean and Shirley began their married life in the Perry area. They became the parents of three children: Dan, Dave, and Kim. Continue reading Dean Imler, 1932 – 2018

Gladys Bastow, 1923 – 2018

Gladys Bastow, 95, passed away  Tuesday, December 11, 2018 in Des Moines. Honoring her wishes, there will be a family memorial service at a later date.

Gladys was born on a farm near Osceola, on April 16, 1923, to Robert and Maude Baysinger. She was the youngest of three children. The family moved to Ridgeway, MO, in 1928, and later to a farm near Mt. Moriah. Continue reading Gladys Bastow, 1923 – 2018

Karen Wolf, 1966 – 2018

Memorial services for Karen Wolf, 52, of Waukee will be held Tuesday, Dec. 18, Tuesday,  at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson. The Rev. Julie Poulsen of First United Methodist Church in Jefferson will officiate. Danille Curtis will be the soloist and accompanist.

LeRoy Miller, 1942 – 2018

A remembrance of the life of LeRoy Miller will be held Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 10:30 am from the United Methodist Church in Churdan with the Rev. David Arulnathan officiating. Burial will be made in the Highland Township Cemetery in Churdan.  Military honors were conducted by the Camp Dodge Honor Guard.

LeRoy E. Miller, the son of Harold G. and Darlene (Carrick) Miller, was born Aug. 17, 1942, in Bayard. LeRoy died peacefully on Dec. 5, 2018, at his rural home southwest of Churdan,  surrounded by his family. He lived his life to the age of 76 years, 3 months and 18 days. Bob Frederick, 1926 – 2018

Funeral services for Robert Frederick, 92, of Panora, formerly of Jefferson, were held Dec. 5, 2018, at the Bagley United Methodist Church in Bagley. Pastor Larry Monthei and Pastor Charlene Wolfe officiated.

Casket bearers were grandchildren Dan Frederick, Sarah Borgeson, Carolyn Renshaw, Elizabeth Pierce, Karen Tungesbik, Mary Hinton and Bill Frederick. Jack Teagarden, 1948 – 2018

John Charles Teagarden was born in Jefferson, IA, Oct. 18, 1948, son of the late Wilbur and Gladys Potter Teagarden. He was welcomed by sister Ruth and brother William. Soon brother Joel joined the gang, followed 10 years later by Baby Janna. John was soon nicknamed Jack, or fondly, Jackie, by his mother.

Growing up in Grand Junction, Jack, a red-haired, left-handed tyke, joined his brothers and friends in many adventures. Sports were an early love, especially baseball. He played from morning until night on the local diamond and every Little League team available.

Dean McAtee, 1932 – 2018

Funeral services will be held Nov. 29 at Central Christian Church in Jefferson for Dean McAtee, 86, of Jefferson.

Words of comfort will be offered by the Rev Sheldon Henderson, pastor of the church. Honorary casket bearers will be members of the Jefferson Kiwanis Club.

Doug L. Walker, 1947 – 2018

Douglas Lorn Walker, the son of Roy and Phyllis (Clements) Walker, was born January 31, 1947 at Jefferson, Iowa and left this life November 4, 2018 at the Iowa University Hospital in Iowa City. He lived his life to the age of 71 years, 9 months and 3 days.

Doug grew up in the Jefferson area and attended and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1965. He helped his father with the family farm during his youth. He later attended Iowa State University in Ames. On September 14, 1968, Doug Walker was united in marriage to Kathy Grow at the Lutheran Church in Hudson. Two sons were born to this union.
