Betty Larson, 1930 – 2019

Services were held Aug. 10 at First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson for Betty Jeanne Larson, 89, of rural Jefferson.

Words of comfort were offered by commissioned pastor Wendy Pittman of First Presbyterian Church of Jefferson and Pastor Larry Monthei of Hope United Methodist Church of Cooper. Gary Haupert was soloist, accompanied by Cheryl Nailor. Honorary bearers were Jami Szwejk, Leslie Welter, Levi Larson, Lakota Larson, Haily Larson and Autumn Larson.

Casket bearers were Christopher Dela Pole, Grant Custer, Mitchell Larson, Reed Larson, Nick Welter, Jeff Szwejk and Alex Contreras. Interment was  at the Franklin Township Cemetery. Continue reading Betty Larson, 1930 – 2019

Doris Holz, 1928 – 2019

Services will be held Aug. 6 at First United Presbyterian Church in Grand Junction for Doris Jean Holz, 91, of Rippey.

Words of comfort will be offered by commissioned Pastor Wendy Pittman. Meladee Graven and Kathy Carroll will be soloists, accompanied by Janet Wills. Honorary bearers will be Kathy Carroll and Margaret Holz.

Donna Blair, 1932 – 2019

Services were held Aug. 5 at St Joseph Catholic Church for Donna Blair, 86, of Jefferson, formerly of Paton.

Father John Gerald was celebrant of the Mass of the Resurrection. Sheilah Pound was soloist, accompanied by Lois Last.

Ronald Neil Toliver, 1937-2019

Services will be held Aug. 2 at First Baptist Church in Churdan for Ron Toliver, 82, of Churdan. Interment will be at the Highland Township Cemetery with full military honors conducted by a Camp Dodge honor guard and the Churdan American Legion post.

Services are arranged by Brown Funeral Home of Jefferson.

Barbara Freeman, 1942 – 2019

Barbara Joan Freeman, 77, of Jefferson passed away Sunday, July 21, 2019 at Greene County Medical Center.

A Celebration of Life was held July 25 at The Dwelling Place in Jefferson. Pastor Rod Block  officiated.

Barbara was born in Carroll on June 24, 1942, the daughter of Floyd Raymond and Ruth Irene (Gibson) Monthei. Barb attended her younger school years in Cooper and was a 1960 graduate of Jefferson High School. Continue reading Barbara Freeman, 1942 – 2019

Duane ‘Shorty’ Clark, 1936 – 2019

Duane D. “Shorty” Clark, the son of Grant and Velma (Steward) Clark was born February 1, 1936, in Adaza in Greene County. He departed this life July 23, 2019, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. He lived his life to the age of 83 years, 5 months and 22 days.

Shorty graduated from Churdan High School in 1954. He was a member of the Iowa National Guard from 1952-1958. Shorty was united in marriage to Joyce Miller on Dec. 23, 1955, at the Scranton Methodist Church. Three children were born to this union, Teresa, Bret, and Sherry. Marilyn Rowles, 1927 – 2019

Marilyn Rowles passed away peacefully at her home on July 20, 2019. She was 92 years of age.

Mass of the Resurrection was held July 24 at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Grand Junction, with Father John Gerald of St. Joseph Catholic Church presiding.

Interment was at the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Grand Junction.

Margaret Marilyn Rowles was born on March 31, 1927, to Tom and Teresa (Schall) Gannon. Marilyn was an active member of St. Brigid Catholic Church in Grand Junction,  9 Holers Golf League at Apache Wells in Mesa, AZ, and numerous clubs and organizations. Continue reading Marilyn Rowles, 1927 – 2019

Elizabeth Ann (Kamps) Guess, 1929 – 2019

Elizabeth Ann Kamps Guess, daughter of Hartwig and Elsie (Bolt) Kamps was born May 7, 1929 in Des Moines. She died June 18, 2019 in her own bed, as was her desire. She lived her life to the age of 90 years, 1 month and 11 days

Liz grew up with her parents and brother Rudy on her family farm near Polk City. Liz was proud of her German heritage and to be a first generation American. She enjoyed playing basketball on the Alleman High School team, riding the inter-urban train to Ankeny to have her knee taped before games. After graduating in 1946, she attended the University of Iowa where she became a proud Hawkeye and made many life-long friends. R. Lee Sloan, 1936 – 2019

Services were held July 15 at First United Methodist Church in Jefferson for Lee Sloan, 82, of Jefferson.

The Rev Julie Poulsen offered words of comfort. Gary Haupert was soloist with Delores Anderson as accompanist.

Rosemary Trucks, 1940 – 2019

Rosemary Trucks, 79, of Jefferson, died July 6, 2019 at Mary Greeley Center Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Visitation with family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 pm Friday, July 12,  at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson.

Rosemary G. Trucks was born on the family farm on May 15, 1940, in Greenbrier Township, Greene County. She was the daughter of William E. Dawson and Ollie (Wagner) Dawson. She was raised on the farm and attended school in Bagley. Continue reading Rosemary Trucks, 1940 – 2019

John Gannon, 1951 – 2019

The family of John Gannon, 68, of Churdan held a visitation for family and friends July 5 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home.
