Billie Wind, 1932 – 2018

Memorial services for Billie Wind, 86, of Jefferson, were held Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Gospel Open Bible Church, Jefferson.

Interment was in the Greenbrier Township Cemetery.

Billie Jean Wind, daughter of Peter and Bessie Anfinson, was born on April 24, 1932, in Perry. She was the sixth of nine children born into a very close, loving family.
She attended Perry schools, graduating with the class of 1950.

In 1951, Billie was married to Melvin Dzuris. They had two children, Melvin Douglas and Diane Marie. In 1953, they moved to the Greenbrier area where they were involved with the Greenbrier Methodist Church and the community. After Melvin’s untimely death in 1972 in a truck accident in Montana, Billie moved into Jefferson.

In 1983, Billie was united in marriage to Harry Lightfoot of Paton. After only 13 months, Harry passed away of a sudden heart attack. Billie moved back to Jefferson and continued to work at the Greene County Medical Center where she was employed for 22 years.

In 1994, Billie married John Wind and they made their home in Jefferson. John passed away in 1998. Billie continued to live in Jefferson where her favorite pastime was watching her grandchildren grow up and attending as many activities of theirs as she could. She loved spending time with each of them. Billie was a member of Gospel Open Bible Church. She enjoyed playing games with her family and friends, listening to gospel music, cheering for the Hawkeyes, making kumla and baking Christmas cookies every year. Billie’s home was always open to family and friends. She always made sure everyone was well fed and well loved.

She was preceded in death by her three husbands, mother Bessie, father Peter,  sisters Dorothy, Beverly, Bonnie, and Betty, brothers Gerald, Don, Bob, and Dick, and son Douglas.
