A visitation was held March 8 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson for Shirley Imler, 81, of Jefferson.

A private interment will be held at a later date at the Jefferson Municipal Cemetery.

Shirley Jean Imler was born October 25, 1936 in a log cabin in Guthrie County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Margaret Elizabeth Dargen Wailes and George Wailes. Shirley attended school at Bayard.

On June 5, 1955, Shirley was united in marriage to Dean Imler at the First Christian Church in Perry, IA. Shirley and Dean began their married life in the Perry area. They became the parents of three children: Dan, Dave, and Kim.

Shirley, Dean and their family moved and worked in numerous locations throughout the years. By 1985, they made Jefferson their home, and have remained Jefferson residents.

Shirley was a hard worker all her life. As a youngster, she did babysitting. After her marriage, she gardened, cooked for farm hands, was a housekeeper, and was a wonderful mother and wife. She and the children walked many fields of beans, including one summer of walking over 1000 acres.

Shirley loved her family. She was an expert at baking cinnamon rolls, and the grandchildren enjoyed her efforts!

Shirley has been a long-time member of the Methodist Church in Bayard. In recent years, she attended church in Jefferson.

Shirley passed away March 5, 2018, at the Dallas County Hospital in Perry. She was 81 years of age.
