The Greene County Rams and the Perry Blue Jays opened the football season with the 90-year-old Battle of the Cowbell. The bell has been in Perry since the Blue Jays won in OT a year ago. It will be in Jefferson for the coming year following a 14-6 victory in Perry.

Cross-country season opens with Gilbert Invitational in Ames
The Ram cross-country team, which this year includes runners from Paton-Churdan, opened the season at the Gilbert Invitational Thursday. The meet is held on the Iowa State University course and draws many schools larger than Greene County. Although the meet was run with two divisions, the Rams were in the division with the larger schools, not the smaller schools.
