JPD tells sTEP results

Jefferson police officers wrote eight citations and issued 137 warnings during a special Traffic Enforcement Project (sTEP) March 15-18 for St Patrick’s Day. Officers wrote two citations for driving while license suspended or revoked, two citations for dark windows, and one each for a seat belt violation, speed, no proof of insurance, and one other traffic violation.

Bald eagles shot in Webster County; DNR looking for tips

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is looking for the person or persons responsible for shooting two bald eagles in Webster County. “People around here are outraged,” said Bill Spece, state conservation officer with the Iowa DNR. “Both eagles were shot with a similar caliber firearm and left for dead so it is possible that these cases are related.”

Greene County district court, week ending March 16

In Greene County district court Joe Edward Blackmon, 41, of Jefferson was sentenced March 14 to two years in prison on a charge of possession of methamphetamine- second offense, amended from possession of methamphetamine- third offense.
