Lots of Socks project grows

This year’s Lots of Socks project netted 1,491 items, including more than 700 pairs of socks, for needy children in Greene County. That figure is about 200 items more than last year and puts the total at more than 6,500 items collected by RSVP 55+ in the seven years it has organized the project.

Leaf raking tradition continues

Greene County High School’s annual leaf raking service project topped last year’s total by five, with students raking 138 yards in Jefferson, Scranton and Grand Junction.  Students, teachers, and community volunteers enjoyed temperatures in the low 70s as they raked the afternoon of Tuesday, Nov. 1. Weather data, week ending Nov. 4

Temperatures were much warmer than normal for the first week in November, with some area residents saying it felt like summer, but without humidity. High temperature for the week ending Nov. 4 was 77 degrees in Jefferson, according to KCCI’s SchoolNet 8. Low temperature was 42 degrees in the early morning Friday. Jefferson received just .03 inch of precipitation.
