Ready, set, skate!

Jefferson city crews took advantage of cold weather last week to prepare the ice rink at Chautauqua Park. As of Friday, the ice was smooth and the lights were ready for evening skating. There is no charge for skating. The ice rink was donated several years ago by Jefferson Telecom.

The Greene County FFA chapter held its second annual Jacket Award Ceremony and ended its fruit sales fundraiser. On December 9, the ceremony included the FFA officer testimonies, advisor Katie Akers’ remarks, and the Greene County Cattlemen’s Association representative Pat Fields (pictured, left). Iowans can start buying 2017 resident hunting, fishing and other licenses on Dec. 15. Licenses purchased for 2016 expire on Jan. 10. The menu of license options includes the popular Outdoor Combo annual resident hunting/fishing/habitat combo license for $47; the Angler’s Special three-year fishing license for $53; and the Hunter’s Special three-year hunting license with habitat included for $86.
