The community of St Patrick Catholic Church on Cedar Creek west of Churdan will celebrate the 100th birthday of the parish’s first brick church will a full day of festivities this Saturday, Aug. 15. The cancer support groups from Jefferson and Scranton will meet together Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 6:30 pm at Christ Lutheran Church in Jefferson to celebrate their first year of supporting and encouraging each other.

The sweet corn was plentiful and the shade was pleasant Sunday evening when members of First United Methodist Church in Jefferson hosted a Sweet Corn Festival Aug. 1. Pulled pork sandwiches, coleslaw and homemade fruit cobbler with ice cream rounded out the menu.

Active and retired military personnel will be honored throughout the day at the Iowa State Fair Monday, Aug. 17. Veterans will be honored with discounted gate admission on Veterans’ Day, Aug. 17. With a military I.D., retired and active members of the armed forces and their spouses will receive $8 gate admission from 7 am to 5 pm.

The deadline for purchasing commemorative brick pavers for the Rippey Consolidated School memorial has been extend to Aug. 15 in an attempt to reach a goal of 100 bricks.
