Winners of this year’s Patriot’s Pen essay contest sponsored by VFW Post 9599 of Jefferson were announced last week. The theme was “America’s Greatest Gift to Our Generation.” Eighth grader Avery Walker placed first at the local level and received $50. Her essay will be submitted for district competition. Chad Maston placed second and Chelsea Richardson placed third.
