Greene County Invitational hosts runners from 23 schools

The Greene County Invitational saw more than 780 high school runners compete on the Greene County high school grounds Thursday evening, as some teams that had been rained out Tuesday added the meet to their schedules. The weather was still not ideal for running, but the meet was held, finishing with the lights on at Linduska Field.

Ballard won the girls class AA title with 41 points. Ballard’s lead runner, Abby Kohut-Jackson, won the title with a time of 15:32.23 for the 4K race. Sophomore Olivia Hansen was the first Ram across the finish in 16th place with a time of 17:33.66. Senior Eme Johnson was 18th in 17:37.53

The Rams finished in the middle of the field in fifth place of 11 teams. Team scores behind Ballard were Winterset 52, Atlantic 97, Creston 135, Greene County 141, Nevada 195, Denison-Schleswig 195, Madrid 200, Kuemper Catholic 240, Roland-Story 248, and Perry 283.

Winterset won the boys class AA title with 69 points. Individual winner was Luke Cohut-Jackson of Ballard with a time of 16:45.27 for the 5K race. Senior Logan Egeland finished first of the Rams in 21st place with a time of 18:49.01.

In team scoring, the Rams placed ninth out of 11 teams. Team scores behind Winterset were Ballard 76, Kuemper 16, Denison-Schleswig 117, Nevada 142, Creston 142, Atlantic 152, Roland-Story 162, Greene County 226, Perry 240 and Madrid 270.

Paton-Churdan had a  team in the boys  class A race. The team finished in 12th place with a team score of 356. Southeast Valley (Gowrie) won the team title with 71 points. Other team scores were Ogden 78, CMB (Maxwell) 87, Des Moines Christian 94, Panorama 144, IKM-Manning 171, South Hamilton 176, West Marshall 189, Audubon 195, Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton 272 and Orient-Macksburg 281. Odgen’s Trey Thompson set the pace for the race, finishing first in 17:21.44.

Panora won the girls class A team title with 39 points. Other team scores were West Marshall 72, Des Moines Christian 82, IKM-Manning 93, CMB 118, South Hamilton 171, Southeast Valley 179, Audubon 214, E/EH-K 228 and Colo-NESCO 276. Winning time in class A girls was Des Moines Christian’s Sydney Clark’s 16:38.27.

Middle school races preceded the high school meet.
