A planned one-hour tour took 90 minutes Wednesday when Jefferson Matters: Main Street director Matt Wetrich, community engagement coordinator Emily Rohner, and board member/Tower View Team chair Deb McGinn hosted Dr Marcela Uribe on a walking tour of Jefferson’s Main Street district. Uribe, program officer for revitalization services for Main Street America, was in Jefferson as part of Jefferson Matters’ four-year accreditation with Main Street America.
The tour began at the municipal building and ended with lunch at the Centennial. Along the way Wetrich highlighted the new Marissa Hernandez mural on the north side of the former Funky Zebra building along with most of the murals and art installations in the Main Street district; historic preservation projects like the Centennial Block and the Public House. Wetrich gave Uribe a full tour of Gravitate, including the Forge and the old Masonic auditorium on the third floor of the building.
The group spent time at the top of the Mahanay Bell Tower, took a quick walk through the courthouse and RVP~1875, inspected one of the three-bedroom apartments at The Jeffersonian, and took time to enjoy the interactive aspects of Imagination Alley.
Uribe seemed impressed with what she saw. While she was complimentary toward everything she saw, “Oh, my gosh! This is beautiful! Oh, Wow!” was her reaction on seeing History Boy Theatre at RVP~1875. “I love it!” was her comment about Imagination Alley.
Jefferson Matters: Main Street will receive a full report after its entire accreditation application is reveiwed.
