Greene County sheriff Jack Williams told the county supervisors at their Aug. 31 meeting that approximately 400 persons toured the new jail over the weekend, with 99 percent good comments.
He had planned to start moving inmates, many of which have been housed in the Guthrie County jail at a cost to the county, on Sunday. The move-in day was moved to Labor Day weekend, however, because electric outlet covers won’t be delivered until Friday.
County attorney Thomas Laehn reported has drafted an amendment to the 28E agreement between the county and the joint entity board – the board that oversees the jail – primarily to update it with the change of address and other minor items.
He also said he was working on amendments to the zoning ordinance dealing with wind turbines and repowering. He plans to have the draft ready for discussion at the supervisors’ Sept. 8 meeting.
Also during the Sept. 8 meeting the supervisors will determine the exact placement on the courthouse grounds of the 9-foot obelisk memorializing the schoolboy soldiers of Rippey. They’ll use a full size wood replica of the monument that day. There were no posted agenda items for the meeting.
