50107 Summerfest in Grand Junction this weekend

50107 Summerfest is this weekend, Friday, July 31, and Saturday, Aug. 1, in Grand Junction. Most activities will be held on the former school lot unless noted.

The fun begins Friday at 4 pm with the opening of the beer tent and yard games. Jesse Wilson and The Scott Kirkhart Band will play from 7 to 11 pm.

Organizers learned Wednesday that the carnival company they had contracted with for Saturday will not be at Summerfest. The committee scurried, though, and was able to secure two water slides, a space bouncer, a 24-ft rock wall, a mechanical bull and bungee jumping. There will be a charge to play.

Other Friday events include a softball tournament, a bags tournament, and the Lions Club car show.

Saturday is packed with events. Registration for the 5K will open at 8:30 am at Fouch Agri-Service with the race and a Fun Walk with Friends to start at 9 am. There will also be a Fun Walk/Run with Friends. A petting zoo will be open from 9 am to 3 pm.

A parade will begin at 10:30 at 15th and Bennett and head west on Hager St.

Inflatables and yard games will be available from 10 am to 10 pm. Rainbow Ray will provide face panting from 10 am to 5 pm. The beer tent will be open from 12 pm to midnight, with 50/50 raffle tickets available.

Vendors will sell their wares from 11 am to 6 pm. The Lions Club will again host a car show from 11 am to 2 pm An ice cream social and bingo begins at 1 pm and ends at 3 pm at the Presbyterian Church.

The Greene County Pork Producers will serve pork sandwiches from 5:30 to 9 pm.

Kenni Falls will provide live music from 1 to 5 pm, with Standing Hampton playing from 8 to 11 pm. Several East Greene class reunions are planned as well.
