The annual hazardous waste collection for Jefferson residents is this Saturday, Aug. 16, from 9 to 11 am at the Greene County Fairgrounds. Metro Waste Authority of Des Moines will host the event.
Jefferson residents can drop off hazardous waste including compact fluorescent light bulbs, gasoline/kerosene, oil and lead-based paint, lead acids/batteries, pesticides, metal polishes/rust removers, solvents, motor oil filters, cleaners, stains/varnishes, petroleum adhesives, antifreeze, thermometers (mercury) and fertilizer. Sharps can be dropped off in plastic milk or juice containers or in specially designed sharps containers.
Rural residents and residents of Churdan, Dana, Grand Junction, Paton, Rippey and Scranton can deliver hazardous waste to the Boone County landfill by appointment. Call 515-433-0591 or email info@boonelandfill.org. Visit www.boonecounty.iowa.gov for information.
