Extreme heat warning in effect Sunday-Tuesday

The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning for more than half of Iowa Sunday through Tuesday this week.

Heat index values are expected to top at hotter than 100 degrees Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and hit 98 degrees Thursday. The coolest heat index during that period is 70 degrees.

Iowans are warned that heat illness is possible. The NWS advises Iowans who must be outdoors to take breaks in air conditioning or in the shade and to drink plenty of water. Also, do not leave children, adults unable to care for themselves, or pets in a car unattended.
