Greenbrier

The June Greenbrier 4-H meeting was held at Clover Hall, with Rylan Hostetler presiding. In recognition of Dairy Month, members learned how milk is processed through a cheese plant and turned into the cheese sold in stores.

Young Leader representative Autumn Barrett reported that the group will help clean and prepare the fairgrounds for the 2026 Greene County Fair. All youth also signed a thank-you message to Home State Bank for providing this year’s fair T-shirts.

Livestock fair entry forms and stall fees are due June 15 at the Greene County Extension office. State Fair entries for animals and horticulture are due July 1, and Clay County Fair entries are due August 1.

Watch for a 4-H fair newsletter by email with dates and times for each club’s responsibilities at the fair. Members also received fair books and the forms needed for individual projects.

Herdsmanship was discussed, with an emphasis on teamwork and maintaining welcoming grounds for visitors.

Abigail Wood shared the history of railroad heroine Kate Shelley. Destiny Hofbauer presented interesting football facts from the past, and Nataliya Milakovich explained TNR, a humane method for controlling the cat population.

Caitlin Hawkins explained the differences between Western and English saddles. Jaelynn and Jentry Hedges also described the process of obtaining a livestock brand for a family farm. Refreshments were served by Caitlin, Destiny, Nataliya, and the Hedges family. The next Greenbrier meeting will be held Sunday, July 5, at the Greene County Fairgrounds, where members will help with setup for the fair.
