Greene County 4-H picnic slated for Aug. 30

4-HGreene County 4-H members, families, and volunteers are invited to a countywide Greene County 4-H picnic at Spring Lake Saturday, Aug. 30, beginning with a free meal served at 5 pm.  Also invited are youth and families interested in joining or learning more about 4-H.

The event is organized and sponsored by the Greene County 4-H youth development committee to celebrate the new 4-H year through food and fun.  The Greene County Pork Producers will grill pork burgers, and sides and beverages will also be served.  Attendees will get the chance to participate in yard games and discounted skating from 6 to 8 pm. 

“This is just one way to say thank you to all the volunteers, families, and 4-H members for all of their hard work this past year, as well as welcome current families and new families into this next 4-H year,” said county youth and 4-H coordinator Sarah Jo Reynolds. “Enrollment for the 2014-2015 4-H year begins on Tuesday, September 2, and re-enrollments are due on Monday, November 17. We look forward to what the new 4-H year brings!”

There is no cost for the meal or yard games.  Skating will be discounted from the regular price, thanks to sponsorship from the Greene County 4-H youth development committee.

To RSVP, call the Extension office at 515-386-2138  by 4:30 pm on Wednesday, Aug. 27.  Participants are requested to bring their lawn chairs to ensure they have a place to sit during the event.
