Community partners are coming together to help local youth gear up for a safe and active spring and summer. A Community Bike Tune-Up Event will be held Saturday, April 25, from 9 am to 12 pm, at Midwest Mission, 219 N Chestnut Street in Jefferson.
Hosted by Midwest Mission, Jefferson Kiwanis, and Rotary Club of Jefferson, this free event invites area youth to bring their bikes for a spring tune-up. Experienced volunteers will be available to assist with minor repairs and safety checks, helping ensure bikes are ready for the riding season ahead.
In addition to tune-ups, community members are encouraged to donate gently used bikes or bike parts. Donations will support Midwest Mission’s microbusiness initiatives, which equip individuals and communities around the world with tools and training to generate sustainable income.
“Programs like our microbusiness initiatives create opportunities for individuals to build skills, generate income, and support their families,” said Danille Curtis, director of Midwest Mission Iowa. “Donated bikes and parts can become valuable resources—whether refurbished for local use or repurposed to support entrepreneurs globally. This event connects our local community with a much broader impact.”
Organizers say the event is also about ensuring children can ride safely, especially with spring activities approaching.
“We are excited to partner with Midwest Mission and Rotary to serve the children and youth of our community,” said Loren Turner of Jefferson Kiwanis. “Making sure bikes are safe and ready to ride is so important—especially as we look ahead to the annual Bike to School Day. This is a simple way we can support families and promote safety.”
For the Rotary Club, the event reflects a deeper commitment to service.
“This event is a great example of putting our values into action,” said Sam Harding, President of the Rotary Club of Jefferson. “Partnering on this event allows us to live out one of our core values of service and right here in Jefferson.”
The event is free and open to area youth. No registration is required. For more information, contact Midwest Mission at (515) 386-2236 or email iowa@midwestmission.org.
