We DO know

~Colleen O’Brien

“You know that. And everybody knows that.”

This is an oft-spoken collection of words from a president who in the wee hours of every morning Tweets or Xs lies about any number of things medical, military, historic, artistic. He’s a blabbering mouth and the sheer repletion of lies shuts our brains down. For four years of the Biden administration, that man ranted to us about what was being done illegally in Washington. He was lying. His continued lying, unchecked by the Press, swayed the voting public and wound up, unbelievingly, once again as president.

His habit of early to bed tweeting/Xing falsity lasts long into the wee hours. Once up and at ’em before noon, in front of a mic or camera (not often on the golf course, where cameras are frowned upon because he cheats at golf), he continues tweeting “.  .  . and everybody knows.”

We do know his lack of goodness, honesty, humor, kindness, generosity, intelligence. Basically, the all-round absence of strength of character is what we know. British writer Nate White said, “He doesn’t even seem to understand what a joke is – his idea of a joke is a crass comment, an illiterate insult, a casual act of cruelty.”

We live it. And the pressure of his morning X-lies builds as the endless weeks go on. His overwhelming absence of embarrassment alongside his cruel dishonesty to friend and foe alike has resulted in three world-wide gatherings of protest against him.

May of 2025, 5 million people in America alone marched; autumn of 2025, it was up to 7 million people nationwide; and last Saturday, March 28, 2026, along with 8 million people marching in their own cities and towns nationwide, I marched once again.

The huge effort called the “NO KINGS” protest is verified by millions of videos taken of protesting Americans who are young, middle-aged, old, black, white, brown, hooded, scarved, silver-haired, no-haired and tow-headed riding their dad’s shoulders. That NO KINGS is active not just in America but across the globe is a blessing to us. People of other nations back us wholeheartedly, helping with their goodwill to rid us of him. (And his suck-ups. He needs to go, but to make sure his self-enrichment isn’t taken over by his greedy family and yes-men & women, they all must go.]

Placards people carried at this latest NO KINGS protest:

“No Kings, No ICE, No War, NO MORE”

“Woman of a Certain RAGE”

“Cincinnati is the ‘Queen City’   NOT a king city!”

“Trump Ruins EVERYTHING”

 “Who Elected this Jerk?”

“I march because FREEDOM can’t march itself”

“Despite what he says, we are not paid to protest”

“No King or family or ANY followers”

“Orange lies matter”

“Did he start WWIII to make us forget Epstein? It ain’t workin’!”

We still have not rid our country of him. What good does protesting do?

Read history. It’s full of protests that resulted in some form of removal to — king, religious leader, wealthy aristocrat, prison warden, merchant in palatial house, sweatshop owner locking teenage girls in their workplace as the building burned down. These are just a few who lost their power to the masses protesting wrongs done to them.

Protesting by enough underlings is itself power.

We no longer behead those we protest against; we merely march in good faith against bad-faith power. The put-upon, overtaxed, ignored, whipped into shape, jailed indiscriminately have been winning for an infinite time. But that self-privileged class keeps popping up. At some point we get sick of them and protest one more time for human rights.

“You know that. And everybody knows that” is not a bad quote. Words in themselves are innocent; it is word usage that in his case supports lies. When he’s using any words, when he opens his mouth, he’s lying. He said that the insurrectionist/traitorous/attacking/beating/swearing criminals of January 6, 2021, were treated badly by prosecutors, judges, the law itself. All lies from the once-again-in-office #1 planet prevaricator – and so he continued lying and pardoned every last one of them.

When I hear those two phrases from his mouth, I pause; it means that we don’t know, whatever it is he’s talking about. We do, after all this time, understand what he accuses others of, he has done or is doing or will do.

We want to live in freedom, which does not survive with lies, which means he’s gotta go.

I adapt his word intent to what I and many everybodies know: we know and everybody of sound mind knows that living in a well-kept democracy is the only fair and decent way for all humanity. And the next time we vote, it will be a matter of taking our job so seriously that we question everything our representatives will do when they get in office. A democracy can survive only within a  free citizenry that keeps its eyes open on all leaders, its ears cocked for their lies. Greed and what it breeds is age-old. It never dies. Neither does fighting against it.
