Patricia Peterson, 1939 – 2026

Patricia Ann Peterson, 86, of Jefferson passed away March 20, 2026, after a long battle with declining health.

A graveside service will be held April 4 at 11 am at the Jefferson Cemetery.

Pat was born March 25, 1939, in Morristown, NJ, to Ernest and Erma (Baynes) Peterson, the second of five children. When she was 5 years old, the family relocated to Jefferson where she attended the pink schoolhouse and Jefferson High School.

In 1955, Pat married Harry Coil and they settled in Santa Ana, CA, where they had five children: Perry, Lisa, Patrick, Andrew and Stephen. She was a very devoted mother. Pat was married for 32 years and spent that time as a homemaker. She attended Orange Coast College where she studied nursing. Later in life, Pat operated her own answering service for many small businesses in the Southern California area. She eventually retired and returned to Jefferson to be near her family. In Pat’s free time, she enjoyed crocheting and had authored three novels and five children’s books. She especially liked long naps in the sunshine.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents Ernest Peterson and Erma Baynes; her sisters Dolores Jean Krause and Dorothy “Dot” Leveque of California; her son Perry Coil; and her granddaughter Brianna Coil.

Pat is survived by her brothers Robert Peterson of Madrid and Edward Peterson of Lake City; children Lisa Coil Jackson (Kevin Jackson) of Irvine, CA, and Patrick Coil, Andrew Coil (Tommie Coil) and Stephen Coil, all of Jefferson; and grandchildren Kamarin Jackson of Irvine,  Sean Coil of Jefferson, and Tara Coil of Hampton.

For the special care she received, the family of Pat wishes to thank Julie Nielsen, ARNP, Dr Thomas Fagg and the dedicated nurses at Greene County Medical Center. Services are arranged by Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home and Cremation Care, Jefferson.
