It took the Greene County Community Foundation just longer than 30 minutes to award more than $250,000 in grants Sunday afternoon, March 22.
Community Foundation board president Patty Fisher made the awards. She first explained the Foundation had received $175,000 to award in grants of less than $35,000 from Grow Greene County, and accessed another $81,229 from the Community Foundation endowment.
Grants were awarded in rough alphabetical order as follows:
*City of Churdan – Replacement of the 58-year-old Community Center roof and sidewalls of the fire station, $39,843;
*Food Bank of Iowa – Food assistance for Greene County food pantries (Greene County ARC, Northside Assembly, Sweet Treats, Paton-Churdan School and Greene County High School) $7,500;
*Friends of Greene County Iowa Parks – Conservation resource materials for public libraries and Greene County Schools libraries, $1,200;
*City of Grand Junction – Stationary generator for the sewage lagoon, $23,250;
*Grand Junction fire & rescue – replace 12 air bottles for self-contained breathing apparatuses, $15,717;
*Grand Junction senior housing – Replacement of boilers heating three buildings, $21,000;
*Greene County 4-H – Equipment and supplies for the re-launched shooting sports program, $4,200;
*Greene County Christian Action Resource Center (food pantry) – Security camera and lighting, $3,500;
*Greene County conservation board – Electric upgrades at Squirrel Hollow park, $17,500;
*Greene County Youth Athletic Association – Movable pitching mounds for baseball/softball fields, $8,421;
*Greene County Historical Society – Connecting doors between museum and recently purchased building to the west, $4,500;
*Greene County Medical Center Foundation – “Culture of Safety,” purchase of specialized wheelchair for MRI patients and updating patient beds, $12,000;
*City of Jefferson – Heart Start AEDs for municipal building, golf course clubhouse, and maintenance shop, $3,400;
*Lutheran Services of Iowa – Financial assistance for mental health therapy, $2,000;
*Marchant Memorial Library, Scranton – LED lighting upgrade, $3,000;
*Scranton Alumni Association – Tables and chairs for Scranton Community Center, $4,000;
*Paton-Churdan Schools – Front-facing library shelves for young students, $7,131;
*VFW David Mosher Post 9599 – Funds for material for Quilts of Valor, $2,960;
*William Paton Public Library, Paton – Five new desktop computers for patron use $3,174;
*Greene County Fair Association – Update air handling in kitchen at Clover Hall, $7,425;
*Greene County Community Schools – Ultra short throw projector for high school auditorium, $10,000;
*Paton-Churdan Early Learning Center – Commercial grade appliances for kitchen in new building, $12,465;
*City of Grand Junction – Fill in former wading pool and shade structure, $16,943; and
*Jefferson Parks & Recreation – Diving board and pump impellers for swimming pool, $34,100.

Since the first grants in 2006, Greene County Community Foundation has awarded $2,943,989. Grow Greene County will award grants of $35,000 or more Tuesday, April 7.
