New Opportunities using media campaign to warn about the dangers of fentanyl

New Opportunities prevention specialists have been working hard to raise awareness of the dangers of opioids. One of those opioids is illicit fentanyl. Most people have heard of fentanyl, but they may not understand how dangerous of a threat it poses to them.

Fentanyl is a powerful opioid that is medically approved to relieve pain. When prescribed and closely monitored by a doctor it can be safe in most situations. However, when it is illegally manufactured and found in fake pills it is dangerous. These pills are made to look real but can contain lethal amounts of fentanyl. Imagine everything you love about your life, gone in an instant with illicit fentanyl.

New Opportunities is using the fentanyl media campaign to help educate communities about this dangerous drug. If you are a movie goer, you may have already seen some pre-movie ads using this media campaign. Be on the lookout for a billboard in our area that raises awareness of the dangers of fentanyl. Radio ads will follow later. Fake pills can have just enough fentanyl to cause death in one pill. Most people have no idea that they are in danger. Remember, you don’t know what contains fentanyl.

The message is simple but critical: Never take pills from a stranger or any source other than a licensed medical professional.
