4-H news

Clover Connection

At the Clover Connection 4-H meeting in February we learned about setting SMART goals. We then set goals of how many items we wanted to collect for the food pantry. We also talked about what items we could bring such as non-perishable food items and toiletries.

Club members then brought the items they had collected to the March meeting. In total, our club collected 220 items to donate to the food pantry. After a short business meeting we went to the food pantry. We delivered our items and learned about what happens at the food pantry. We then helped sort and shelve items.

Greenbrier 4-H Club

The Greenbrier 4-H club met on March 9 in Clover Hall, at the Greene County Fairgrounds. President Becca Anderson called the meeting to order reporting that the annual Valentine chocolate-covered strawberry fundraiser was a success. The Young Leaders are currently focused on community service projects to pursue.

Five members – Rylan Hostetler, Jentry Hedges, Makenzie and Maxton Wahl, and Madison Christensen – participated in another Valentine community service activity at the Gardens assisted living facility in Jefferson. These members visited each room handing out valentines the entire club had assembled at their last meeting. The five members reported how welcoming the residents were. Elaina Stephenson said, “The people were fun.” And Jentry Hedges said, “They were all very happy to read the valentines.”

Members were reminded to sign up online for the upcoming YQCA workshops that are required in order to show animals at the fair.

“All American Fair” was announced as the theme for the 2026 Greene County Fair this year. Members considered how to carry out the concept.

Presentations were given by Olivia Burkett who spoke to the club about her ukulele; and Makenzie Wahl who explained the study of psychology, being the scientific study of mind and behavior including mental processes, emotions and actions. Becca Anderson reported on John Wooden, an American basketball coach who used the character-based leadership style with his teams. Maxton Wahl showed us the baseball equipment he uses. Olivia, Becca and the Wahls served refreshments. The next Greenbrier 4-H meeting will be April 13 at 7 pm in Clover Hall.
