In Greene County district court Jon Edward Strabley, 26, of Grand Junction was sentenced to one year in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated. All but two days of the jail time was suspended. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the jail time. He was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Strabley was fined $1,250 with a $187.50 surcharge; one-half will be waived if he obtains a temporary restricted license. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)
April Marie Steil, 46, of Des Moines was sentenced to one year in jail after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of theft- fourth degree. The jail term was suspended. If Steil ever serves it, it will be concurrent to sentences in one Tama County case, two Polk County cases, and one Clark County case. She was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for one year. She was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. Court costs were $449.80. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Christopher Herbert Lawrence, 45, of Ames pleaded not guilty at arraignment to charges of domestic abuse assault- third or subsequent offense and harassment- first degree. A trial date was set for April 7.
Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Karen Lenore Gillman, 61, of Scranton, theft- first degree; Derlin Oveniel Alvaren Martinez, 31, of Jefferson, criminal mischief- fourth degree (two counts); and Vincent Allen Michael Nichols, 34, of Jefferson, sex offender registry violation- second or subsequent offense, and sex offender- provide false information.
