Greenbrier 4-H Family and Awards Night – 2025

Greenbrier 4-H club members and families gathered for the annual Family Awards Night in Clover Hall on Sunday, Nov. 2. This event celebrated the accomplishments of the club and its members over the last year.

Becca Anderson welcomed people and called the meeting to order. Aden Bardole led the introduction of families, and Jaelynn Hedges, Madison Christensen, and Makenzie Wahl led a fun Human Scavenger Hunt activity.

Aden Bardole acknowledged these members for having exhibits at the Iowa State Fair: Becca Anderson, Autumn Barrett, Madison Christensen, Eli Hardaway, Jaelynn and Jentry Hedges, Rylan Hostetler, Norah Hoyt, Adya Messer, Breanna Pope, and Elaina Stephenson.

Aden and Bailey led the initiation of new members: Walker Barrett, Wyatt Christensen, Logan Gierstorf, Jerzey Hopkins, Niah Hoyt, Cody Pope, Brecken Klauer, Caitlin Hawkins, Chase McDonough, and Tristan Woodley.

Record keeping awards were handed out by Samantha. Jentry Hedges received outstanding junior record keeping with Elaina Stephenson as honorable mention. Intermediate outstanding record keeping went to Jaelynn Hedges with Madison Christensen receiving honorable mention. Senior record keeping went to Becca Anderson with Autumn Barrett as honorable mention.

The installation of a committee of officers was led by Samantha Hardaway, Greene County Youth and 4-H coordinator from the Greene County Extension office. Those installed were Becca Anderson, Aden Bardole, Autumn Barrett, Jaelynn Hedges, Eli Hardaway, Landyn Goughnour, Madison Christensen, Makenzie Wahl, and Rylan Hostetler.

Becca and Aden handed out Greenbrier tenure certificates and seals. Those went to: one year – Nataliya Milakovich, Julisa Carlson, Quinnlynn Hoskins, and Amber Stephenson; two years – Luke Larson, Maxton Wahl, Callen Taggart, Jentry Hedges, Emma Stephenson, Lyndsie Goughnour, and Blake Gierstorf; three years – Quinten Messer, Elaina Stephenson, Parker Gierstorf, Norah Hoyt, Olivia Burkett, JC Pepples, and Ava and Ellen Glendening; four years – Lillian Barrett, Rylan Hostetler, Tyler Pope, Makenzie Wahl, and Abigail Wood; five years – Madison Christensen, Landyn Goughnour, Eli Hardaway, Jaelynn Hedges, and Cody Taggart; six years – Adya Messer and Breanna Pope; seven years – Autumn Barrett; and eight years – Becca Anderson, Aden Bardole and Kaleah Messer.

Samantha also gave project awards that can be earned after a 4-H’er has completed two years in a project and completed record keeping for that project. Each youth receives a certificate and pin. Junior project winners were Jentry Hedges with fashion, horse, beef, and photography; Norah Hoyt with visual arts; and Luke Larson with swine.

Intermediate project awards went to Rylan Hostetler for photography; Madison Christensen for beef, food and nutrition, and woodworking; and Jaelynn Hedges for beef, horse, fashion, and poultry. Senior project awards went to Autumn Barrett for rabbit, sheep, horse, and photography.

Families were reminded of the re-enrollment deadline Nov. 15 to avoid the late $25 fee, and the December meeting at Spare Time Lanes Dec. 7, from 1 to 2:30 pm. Linda Hedges, Greenbrier leader, thanked the members and parents for their support during the year. She explained 4-H had changed over the years but pointed out the huge number of workshop and learning possibilities available to 4-H’ers today. 4-H is also the same in that youth and parents can choose an interest of theirs and turn it into whatever kind of project they would like and then share it with the public at club meetings, the Greene County Fair, or even the Iowa State Fair.
