Brad Wilkening will discuss the impact of the Holocaust and how it continues to resonate in today’s world in “Lessons of the Holocaust” on Oct. 20 at 2:30 pm at the Grand Junction Community Center and 6 pm at the Marchant Memorial Library in Scranton.
As a dedicated educator and member of the Iowa Holocaust Council, Wilkening’s mission is to educate the people of all ages about the Holocaust, emphasizing the importance of making informed decisions and recognizing the consequences of inaction.
The Holocaust was a systematic, state-sponsored persecution and murder of 6 million Jews by Nazi Germany and its collaborators during World War II. It also targeted millions of others, including Romani people, disabled individuals, Poles, Soviet prisoners of war, and others deemed “undesirable.” This genocide—driven by antisemitic ideology—involved ghettos, forced labor, mass shootings, and extermination camps. Wilkening’s presentations are sponsored by the Grand Junction and Scranton libraries and are available to the public at no charge. High school and middle school students in Greene County are encouraged to attend, as the schools dismiss early on Mondays for staff professional development.
