Rippey United Methodist Church Ingathering, Jo Bardole and committee

It’s that time again!  I know it may seem early to be thinking about school kits for the Ingathering, but sales always start in July for school supplies.  The list can be picked up at the church or call Jo Bardole for information.  If anyone is in making school bags, the instructions are also available at the church.  Thanks to everyone who has donated fabric. The school kits provide tools for education, which changes lives.  In countries where children don’t have books, school supplies or classrooms, a school kit may be their only educational resource.  Please consider helping make this wonderful project a reality for as many children as possible in 2014.

Rippey library news, Jean Borgeson, secretary

A new fiscal year began for the library at Rippey on July 1.  On July 7 at its regular meeting, the Rippey city council approved to transfer of $4,523 from the general fund to the library fund for the 2014-2015 fiscal year.  This amount matches plus one dollar, the money the supervisors allowed to the Rippey library for this fiscal year.

Also, at the July 7 meeting, the city council approved Jean Borgeson as a board member for another term, and Jo Bardole for her first term as a board member.  Jo had completed the term of Velda DeMoss, which ended June 30.  The terms are for six years.

The library board, with the help of librarian Sarah Kilgore, has updated all the library policies over the last few months.  They are available at the library.

The board strives to support and ensure the library is a viable asset for our community.  Board members are  Dale Hanaman, president, Mary Millard, treasurer, Jean Borgeson, secretary, Jo Bardole, and Nancy Burrow.

East Greene classmates from the class of 1954 gathered at Ferg’s Restaurant in Grand Junction last Sunday, July 27. Julie Thompson Stinard, Ankeny, had organized the gathering. One of the classmates, Sarah Minium Dimond, had recently moved from Arizona to Clarinda. Others who joined for lunch were Sue Thornton and Lynda Cochran, both of Jefferson, and Nancy Hanaman.

Visitors last weekend in the home of Doris Brown were her cousin Karen and Larry Foster of Plainview, NE.  Karen is the daughter of the late Harold and Margaret Grow, who lived in Rippey until moving to Linden in 1958.  Karen was back for her 45th class reunion of the former Panora-Linden school district.
