National 4-H Week, Oct. 5-11

National 4-H Week is October 5-11, 2025. The theme this year is “Beyond Ready,” which emphasizes preparing youth for life and career through 4-H programs. It is dedicated to celebrating and inspiring 4-H members, volunteers, and alumni nationwide. That includes 6 million 4-H’ers, 3,500 educators, 500,000 volunteers, and 35 million alumni.

They will be celebrating the 4-H mission which is to help youth acquire knowledge, develop life skills and form attitudes to enable them to become self-directing, productive and contributing members of society.

The 4- H motto, “To Make the Best Better”, encourages members to strive for improvement and to continuously work on developing skills and potential. It emphasizes the idea of learning and growing through experiences, as reflected in the 4-H slogan, “Learn by Doing.”

Learning by doing encourages youth to take on leadership roles, manage projects and develop skills like communication, record keeping and time management.

4-H is beneficial for young people because it provides a positive hands-on learning environment, where they can develop essential life skills, explore their interests, and build confidence through various projects and activities. 4-H helps youth learn leadership, communication, and teamwork, while fostering a sense of community and civic responsibility.

Together the 4 H’s symbolize the development of the HEAD, to think, plan, and reason, the HEART, to care for others, accept citizenship responsibilities and develop positive attitudes, the HANDS, to be useful, helpful, skillful, and HEALTH, to practice helpful living, enjoy life, and use leisure time. Help the Greenbrier 4-H club and all other Greene County 4-H clubs celebrate this important national 4-H organization this week.
