Sheriff’s report – September 2025

Following are excerpts of daily activities reported by the Greene County sheriff:

Tuesday, Sept. 30: At 9:08 am a deputy investigated an attempted burglary in the 900 block of Cedar St in Scranton. At 7:25 pm Kegan Claiser, 26, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on charge of driving while license barred and operation without a interlock device*.

Monday, Sept. 29: At 4:15 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a vicious dog on Eagle and Irving Sts in Scranton. At 7:45 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of illegal burning in the 900 block of Stanton St in Scranton.

Sunday, Sept. 28: At 8:07 am a deputy assisted with cattle out on 300th St and P Ave in Franklin Township. At 11:17 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 200 block of Hill St, Churdan. At 2:42 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in Grand Junction. At 3:04 pm Neal Schoon 62, of Bayard was booked into the jail for stalking-violating a no contact order-domestic, and revocation of pretrial release. At 7:28 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog running at large in the 600 block of Hill St in Churdan.

Saturday, Sept. 27: At 5:06 pm a deputy investigated a two-vehicle accident on K Ave and 270th St in Greenbrier Township. Michael Garnett of Perry was traveling south on K Avenue in a 2008 Mercury Millan. Jesse Perrett of Scranton was traveling west on 270th St in a 2025 Nissan Sentra. The vehicles collided in the intersection. Passengers in both vehicles had minor injuries. Perret was cited for failure to yield the right of way. Garnett was cited for no insurance- accident related and driving while license suspended. Garnett was also arrested on an outstanding Polk County warrant. Damage to both vehicles exceeded value. At 8:19 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out on 305th St and P Ave in Franklin Township.

Friday, Sept. 26: At 1:45 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 700 block of S. 14th St in Grand Junction. At 4:10 pm a deputy investigated a car-pedestrian accident in the 700 block of School St in Churdan. Nancy Plantz of Fonda was northbound on North St when a 12-year-old came out of a yard and struck the front driver’s side of the vehicle. The juvenile was on a motorized scooter. The juvenile had minor injuries. At 4:16 pm a deputy investigated a two-vehicle on Hwy 30 and W Ave east of Grand Junction. Rodney Winger of Beaver was westbound on Hwy 30 driving a 2004 Holiday Rambler, turning left onto W Ave. Lance Ross of Grand Junction was westbound on Hwy 30 driving a Harley Davidson motorcycle. He attempted to pass Winger but struck the driver’s side of the RV. One driver received minor injuries. Ross was cited for unsafe passing, failure to provide financial liability- accident related, and no valid motorcycle operator’s license. Damage to his motorcycle exceeded value. Damage to the RV was estimated at $10,000.

Thursday, Sept. 25: At 8:44 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 600 block of Jay St in Churdan. At 7:13 pm a deputy and Jefferson Fire responded to a combine fire in the 1800 block of 195th St in Hardin Township. There was no damage to the combine. A bad bearing was located.

Wednesday, Sept. 24: At 6:45 pm a deputy, Churdan Fire, Jefferson Fire, and Greene County Ambulance responded to an accident involving a car and a semi on I Ave near 130th St in Highland Township. Mark Kersey of Churdan was driving a 2015 Peterbuilt semi with a grain trailer northbound on I Ave. Kersey started a turn into a field drive. Carol Hupton of Rockwell City was also northbound driving a 2018 Jeep Cherokee. She attempted to pass on the right but struck the front end of the semi. There were minor injuries but no one was transported. Hupton was cited for unsafe passing. Damage to Kersey’s semi was estimated at $60,000. Damage to Hupton’s vehicle was estimated at $10,000. At 8:15 pm the sheriff, a deputy, Paton Fire, Grand Junction Fire and Rescue, and Greene Ambulance responded to the 400 block of R Ave in Dawson Township for a male trapped in an auger. The 78-year-old male was pronounced deceased at Greene County Medical Center. At 9:35 pm Kelly Greving, 47, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on charges of ongoing criminal conduct- enterprise, prostitution, possession of a controlled substance, ongoing criminal conduct-network, possession of methamphetamine*.

Tuesday, Sept. 23: At 2:38 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 600 block of School St in Churdan.

Monday, Sept. 22: At 7:56 am a deputy investigated a complaint of a missing person in the 900 block of Chicago St in Scranton. At 8:33 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious person in the 200 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction.

Sunday, Sept. 21: At 12:15 am a deputy assisted with a cow out on 1st St in Rippey. At 6:30 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 900 block of Locust St in Scranton. At 9:33 am a deputy assisted with cattle out on D Ave near 120th St in Cedar Township. At 6:06 pm a deputy assisted with a horse running loose in the 1800 block of 250th St om Grant Township. At 9:45 pm a deputy assisted with a cow out on 3rd St in Rippey.

Saturday, Sept. 20: At 9:25 am a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog running at large in the 600 block of Hill St in Churdan. At 8:12 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in Dana. At 8:24 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on 300th St near Terrace Ave in Washington Township. Rogan Dougan of Perry struck a deer with a 2011 Mazda CX-7, causing an estimated $2,000 damage to the vehicle. At 9:29 pm a deputy assisted with a cow out on 1st St in Rippey. At 11:51 pm a deputy investigated a noise complaint in the 600 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction.

Friday, Sept. 19: At 9:47 am Robert Gilmore, 39, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of possession of a controlled substance*. At 3:55 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 200 block of S. 19th St in Grand Junction. At 6:33 pm a deputy investigated a person missing from the 500 block of E. Main St, in Grand Junction. The missing child was located. At 10:41 pm a deputy investigated a person missing from the 600 block of S Ave in Dawson Township. The child was located.

Thursday, Sept. 18: At 9:55 am a deputy investigated a complaint of animal neglect in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 3:29 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 1400 block of Kirkwood Ave in Jackson Township.

Wednesday, Sept. 17: No activity reported.

Tuesday, Sept. 16: At 9:44 am a deputy investigated an animal complaint in the 600 block of Sand St in Churdan. At 2:27 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson police department with an arrest near W. Wall St and N. Grimmell Rd. At 4:30 pm Max Leyendecker, 35, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on charges of trespass and interference with official acts*. At 7:41 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out on U Ave near 1st St in Rippey. At 8:34 pm a deputy investigated a violation of a no contact order in Scranton. At 9 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a barking dog in  Grand Junction. At 9:49 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 700 block of Hill St in Churdan.

Monday, Sept. 15: At 9:32 am Karen Gillman, 61, of Scranton was booked into the jail on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia*. At 6:10 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment complaint in the 600 block of Adrian St in Churdan. At 6:17 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment complaint in the 900 block of Cedar St in Scranton. At 8:25 pm a deputy investigated an illegal burn in the 900 block of Stanton St in Scranton.

Sunday, Sept. 14: At 12:41 am Dane Petersen, 19, of Jefferson was booked into the jail for consuming alcohol in public*. At 2:27 pm a deputy investigated a fight in the 800 block of N. 11th St in Grand Junction. At 3:23 pm Haleigh Conover, 33, of Montezuma was booked into the jail on a charge of operating a vehicle without owner’s consent*.

Saturday, Sept. 13: At 10:44 am a deputy investigated a single-vehicle rollover accident on 150th St and L Ave in Highland Township. Steven Bailey of Churdan lost control of a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado and trailer. Damage was estimated at $12,000.  At 11:21 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 600 block of S Ave in Dawson Township. At 2:56 pm a deputy, Greene County Ambulance, and Jefferson Fire responded to a car fire in the 1100 block of Orchard Ave in Grant Township. The vehicle was a total loss.

Friday, Sept. 12: At 12:39 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 1:22 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 900 block of Cedar St in Scranton. At 5 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 600 block of E. Hager St in  Grand Junction. At 9:08 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of fireworks in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction.

Thursday, Sept. 11: At 12:54 am a deputy investigated a complaint of a barking dog in the 300 block of S. 8th St in Grand Junction. At 8:31 am a deputy assisted the Iowa Health & Human Services department with an investigation in Scranton. At 1:41 pm Casey Kennedy, 25, of Grand Junction was booked into the jail on a charge of possession of a controlled substance*. At 4:17 pm Melissa Dopheide, 43, of Scranton was booked into the jail for on a charge of driving while license barred*.

Wednesday, Sept. 10: At 2:37 pm deputies assisted with a missing person report in the 300 block of D Ave in Cedar Township.              

Tuesday, Sept. 9: At 7:02 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on 170th St near T Ave in Hardin Township. Phyllis Minnihan of Churdan struck a deer with a Toyota Crown Limited, causing an estimated $1,000 damage to the vehicle.

Monday, Sept. 8: At 12:34 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out in the 1500 block of U Ave south of Grand Junction. At 4:38 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment  in the 600 block of S. 13th St in Grand Junction. At 7:24 pm Brittany Smith, 38, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia*.

Sunday, Sept. 7: At 9:05 am a deputy assisted with an injured dog in the 1200 block of 245th St in Jackson Township. At 5:44 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog running at large in the 600 block of Hill St in Churdan. At 8:22 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Hwy 30 and C Ave west of Scranton. Chris Lara of Denison struck a deer with a 2013 Ford Edge, causing an estimated $1,200 in damage to the vehicle.

Saturday, Sept. 6: At 9:27 pm the sheriff’s office assisted the Jefferson police department with a search warrant in the 400 block of S. Cedar St in Jefferson. At approximately 10:49 p.m., the Greene County sheriff’s office assisted the Boone police department and the Boone County sheriff’s office with a pursuit that started in Boone County and continued into Greene County. The pursued vehicle came to a stop, and officers encountered 18-year-old Camryn Stonehocker of Boone. Stonehocker exited his vehicle armed with a weapon. When Stonehocker advanced on officers, an officer fired his weapon, striking Stonehocker. Stonehocker died at the scene. The involved officers were uninjured. They have been placed on critical incident leave in accordance with their department policy. No further details will be released at this time.

Friday, Sept. 5: At 12:48 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass on 230th St and Falcon Ave in Jackson Township. At 1:53 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of animal neglect in the 300 block of 150th St in Cedar Township. At 10:25 pm Thomas Gaylord, 40, of Yale was booked into the jail on a charge of assault*.

Thursday, Sept. 4: At 12:51 pm a deputy investigated a missing person report in the 200 block of S. 7th St in Grand Junction. At 3:37 pm a deputy investigated a cow carcass that was dumped in the 1000 block of U Ave north of Grand Junction. At 6:54 pm a deputy assisted with hogs out in the 900 block of 290th St in Greenbrier Township.

Wednesday, Sept. 3: At 9:02 am a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief  in the 700 block of Walnut St in Scranton. At 11:32 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 1700 block of K Ave in Jackson Township.

Tuesday, Sept. 2: At 1:55 pm a deputy arrested Richard Keller, 44, of Grand Junction in the 500 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction. Keller was arrested on charges of criminal mischief- second degree, assault causing bodily injury, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, and interference with official acts*. He was later booked into the jail on the charges. At 7:56 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog running at large in the 600 block of Hill St in Churdan. At 8:08 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction.

Monday, Sept. 1: At 2:14 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction.

In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
