Greene County district court, week ending May 9

In Greene County district court Tanya Marie Helmrichs, 45, of Grand Junction was sentenced May 7 to five years in prison on a charge of possession of methamphetamine- third offense. She was found guilty of the charge at a trial March 6. The prison term was suspended and Helmrichs was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for three years. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete all treatment recommendations at her own expense. She was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge; both were suspended. She must pay restitution not to exceed $700 for her court appointed attorney’s fees and $937.34 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)

Abby Rose Paddock, 31, of Des Moines was fined $105 with a $15.75 surcharge after she pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, amended from possession of marijuana. She must pay restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees not to exceed $400 and $392 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Kolbe Richard Hunter, 24, of Scranton was sentenced to one year in jail on each of three counts of assault on persons in certain occupation and one count of assault causing bodily injury. The jail terms were suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for two years. He was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge on each of the four counts. Two counts of harassment- first degree and two counts of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon were dismissed. Court costs were $219.83. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Danica Goff Hueser, 18, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness. She was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. She must pay a $430 civil penalty and restitution for her court appointed attorney not to exceed $259. A case in magistrate court in which Goff Hueser was charged with disorderly conduct- fighting/violent behavior was dismissed court costs were $60. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Kyle Aaron Whitehead, 41, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after he pleaded guilty to a charge of harassment- second degree. He was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. A judgment was entered for a $430 civil penalty. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Zachary Alan Armstrong, 39 of Jefferson, assault while display dangerous weapon (two counts) and harassment- first degree (four counts); Joseph Henry Charleston III, 54, of Manning, domestic abuse assault- third or subsequent offense; Conner Laine Groves, 28, of Scranton, tampering with juror; Orlando Lee Love, 49, of Humboldt, possession of methamphetamine, malicious prosecution; Seth Allen Blumberg, 26, of Grand Junction, assault causing bodily injury or mental illness; Beverly Ann Hickox, 72, of Des Moines, possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of a controlled substance; Jacob Eugene Day, 35, of Jefferson, and operating while intoxicated. A trial date was set for June 9 for Groves, June 17 for Armstrong, and July 22 for all other defendants named.

Cases were initiated during the week ending May 9 as follows: Melissa Marie Rysavy, 29, of Scranton, harassment- first degree; Daniel Joseph Tasler, 33, of Jefferson, theft- fourth degree, credit card fraud less than $10,000, and possession of marijuana; Linda Sue Moran, 63, of Denison, operating while intoxicated- second offense; Matthew Jordan Moran, 28, of Denison, assault causing bodily injury or mental illness; and Jason Wayne Morris, 42, of Rippey, assault causing bodily injury or mental illness.
