Bike to School 2025 rolls from downtown Jefferson to Greene County Elementary

Greene County Elementary students and teachers thank parents and community partners who made Bike to School 2025, held May 7, a fun success.

“With perfect spring weather, the event became a true celebration of health, safety, and community connection,” principal Audrey Hinote said.

The tradition began just a few years ago thanks to the vision of physical education teacher Sean Thompson. He launched a biking program to teach students how to ride confidently, promote safe biking on our streets, and bring a little fun and fitness to our community.

This year’s ride was extra special, as Mr Thompson’s family surprised him for “one last ride” — showing their love and support for the impact he’s made on so many young riders. It was a touching moment and a fitting celebration of the legacy he’s created for our school and town. Mr Thompson is retiring at the end of the school year.

School administrators gave the following thanks –
–Hy-Vee for fueling our riders with water and bananas — thank you for keeping us hydrated and energized!
–Jefferson Police Department for safely escorting our bikers and ensuring a smooth, worry-free route.
–Jefferson Kiwanis Club for monitoring intersections and prioritizing safety all along the way.
— Local business owners and neighbors who cheered from the sidewalks — thank you for your support!

“Bike to School 2025 was more than just a ride — it was a powerful reminder of what makes Greene County a great place to learn and work: dedicated educators, supportive families, and a community that supports our schools. We can’t wait to ride again next year,” Hinote said.
