Ground was broken March 17 on the new Greene County jail. Holding shovels were Greene County supervisors, sheriff Jack Williams and representatives of DCI Group. Sheriff deputies and staff looked on.

DCI Group is serving as construction manager at risk. The company has assembled a roster of 17 contractors who will work on various components of the building. The group includes Absolute Concrete Construction – building concrete; Northwest Steel Erection, Inc. – steel & precast erection; Central States Roofing – roofing; Coreslab Structures, Inc. – precast concrete supply; Denison Drywall Contracting – framing, drywall, ceilings; Elite Glass and Metal, Inc. – glass & glazing; Forrest & Associates – masonry; Katelman Steel Fabrication – steel supply; Tjaden Electric Company – electrical systems; Midwest Automatic Fire Sprinkler Company – fire suppression; Noah Detention Construction – detention equipment; Proctor Corporation –mechanical & plumbing; Rasch Construction – earthwork & utilities; Kinzler Construction Services – overhead doors; Keystone Construction Services – carpentry and finishes; Castor Construction – site paving; and Allied Construction Services – painting
Excavation for the project began immediately. The $10.9 million project will be completed in the fall of 2026.
