Man charged with attempted murder, arson after stabbing in Paton

A Paton man is in custody after stabbing another male and setting his Paton home on fire.

According to a press release from Greene County sheriff Jack Williams, Greene County dispatch received a call March 11 at 2:09 pm from a male who said he had been stabbed in the 300 block of State St in Paton. The male advised he was en route to Greene County Medical Center.

 Once at the medical center, the male received a call from the suspect in the stabbing, telling the victim he was going to start his house on fire.

Greene County deputies arrived at the Paton house at 2:33 pm and determined the house was on fire. The suspect left the scene.

Deputies located the suspect on Hwy 144 and 185th St, south of Dana. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle but driver fled. He returned to the 300 block of State St in Paton. Deputies were able to place him into custody there.

Devin Christopher Hackfort, 28, of Paton is charged with attempted murder, harassment- first degree, arson- second degree, and two counts of assault on person in certain occupation. He was booked into the county jail. A criminal charge is only an allegation of wrongdoing. All persons are innocent until proven guilty.
