Steven Carlson, 71, of Jefferson, passed away peacefully at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids surrounded by his family on Friday, February 21, 2025. Steve was born in Adrian, MN, on December 22, 1953, the son of Vernon and Mina Carlson. He grew up and graduated high school from Estherville.
After graduation Steve enlisted in the Air Force and proudly served from 1972-1976. After his service, he returned to Iowa and pursued his barber’s license.
Steve married LuAnn Ott in 1984 and they established their home in Jefferson with their two sons, Alex and Eric. Steve dedicated his life to his family and his craft as a skilled barber, where he built many lasting relationships. He purchased and ran his own barbershop, Headmasters, for many years.
Along with raising his boys and running the barbershop, Steve spent a lot of time in the outdoors. His love for hunting, fishing, golfing and sports never went unnoticed. Steve spent many years volunteering for the Jefferson Little League and attending his boys’ sporting events. He was a long-time member of Ducks Unlimited and Kiwanis.
Steve was a proud Grandpa to five grandchildren that he loved deeply and kept him busy with all their sporting events and activities. After selling his barbershop and “semi-retiring” Steve continued to cut hair but filled a lot of his time with completing crossword puzzles waiting on his next appointment.
Steve is survived by his sons Alex (Megan) Carlson of Coon Rapids, and Eric (Amanda) Carlson of Jefferson; grandchildren Aubrey, Gage and Cam of Coon Rapids, and Gretah and Hudson of Jefferson; siblings: Bill (Cindy) Carlson of Story City, Jim (Jean) Carlson of Paola, KS, and Nancy Reinig of Overland Park, KS; sister-in-law Sue Carlson of Berkeley Lake, GA; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Steve was proceeded in death by his parents, Vernon and Mina Carlson and brother, Eugene Carlson.
