To the editor: In support of Margaret Liston

To the editor,

State Senator candidate Margaret Liston is a force. She is the person who is a quiet leader through action and deed.  You know her, she comes to an event, asks what is needed, and pitches in to make things happen.

Her pursuit of an education for herself tells you much about how she values it.  Her steps were GED, training to be a LPN, an associate degree to become a Registered Nurse, a  Bachelor  of Science in Nursing, and a Master of Public Administration.  That’s a contrast to the current State Senator’s personal education effort.

Margaret Liston worked for 30 years as a nurse.  She was an operating room nurse at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames when she retired.  She knows Iowa healthcare needs from the professional side. Margaret has strong opinions about women’s healthcare and reproductive freedom. Compare that to the current State Senator who voted for a six week threshold for the current abortion law.

Margaret Liston has been elected five times (20 years) to the Ogden city council.  She knows about small town and rural Iowa. Liston opposes the use of eminent domain for the carbon capture pipeline. She also opposes the pipeline for public safety and environmental reasons. Compare her view with the evolving view of the current State Senator.

Our current State Senator has been an “enabler” for Governor Reynolds’ agenda; to limit women’s reproductive freedom, to bankroll private school vouchers, to topple functioning Area Education Agencies, to instigate state boards and commissions reorganization, and ignite book bans.

Margaret Liston has knocked on thousands of doors this year to hear what we, the people, think. Her effort is much more work than  just accepting the direction of the governor. Margaret asks questions, listens to opinions, and will act to represent the people of the 24th State Senate District.

Margaret Liston is a force you should select for the people. Vote Margaret Liston for Iowa Senate District 24.
