Rams fall to ranked R-S at home

The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) rankings showcase the best teams in Iowa, and Greene County football just faced off against one of them.

The top-ranked Roland-Story Norsemen came to Linduska Field and defeated the Rams by a final score of 34-6. The Rams gave up 418 yards of offense, with 348 being on the ground, while the Rams were limited to just 84 rushing yards. From start to finish, the Norsemen played up to their rank.

“They have good size and are just solid everywhere on top of having much more depth than us. They played a good game and came up with more plays than we did,” head coach Caden Duncan said. “They were big up front and very aggressive. At times, we had some nice holes and were finding some lanes to run, but we just didn’t do it consistently enough.”

While the final score didn’t end up the way the Rams would have wanted, there were bright spots on both sides of the ball. While the running game struggled to find traction, the Rams aired the ball out and succeeded as senior quarterback Crew Conner had a good night.

“Crew made some nice throws. We had a few things in the game plan that we thought might be open, and for the most part, he did a great job of getting the ball where it needed to go,” Duncan added.

The Rams record dropped to 2-4 on the year, which is not where they would like to be. With two games left in the season, the players are remaining engaged and come out ready to go every week. With a date against Southeast Valley next, the Rams know what to focus on.

“We need to increase our physicality and limit the mental errors. We had a few of those in our last game and it made the score look worse than what it should’ve been,” Duncan concluded. “Most of our guys do a great job of staying engaged and never giving up. It’s something that we preach every week, so it’s been nice to see that each week,” Duncan concluded.

Next, the Rams will take on the Southeast Valley Jaguars as they look to rebound with a win. The game is set to kickoff at 7 p.m. Historically, the Jaguars hold the advantage in games since 2023, 1-0.
