The Greene County Rams volleyball team faced stiff competition in their second week of action.
The Rams headed out to a tournament Sept. 3 at Kuemper Catholic, where they went 1-3 in matches on the day. The Rams took on the Kuemper Catholic Knights, losing 0-2 (16-21, 12-21). The Rams then faced the Ogden Bulldogs, where they won 2-0 (21-12, 21-9), getting them in the win column.
The last two matches saw the Rams go against the Roland-Story Norsemen, losing in two sets 0-2 (14-21, 7-21). The Rams then finished the day of matches against the Ames Little Cyclones, losing 0-2 in sets two (15-21, 11-21). While the win/loss record wasn’t what the Rams hoped for, serving remained a strong factor for the Rams as Lila Osterson was 18/18 throughout the night, and Emma Ewalt was 13/14.
“We found ourselves playing from behind for most of the night. That doesn’t take away the fact that we had a lot of great moments where things were clicking for us. We will learn from the ups and downs and use them to prepare for conference play,” said head Coach Chris Heisterkamp.
Of the competition they faced at Kuemper, the Knights were ranked 10th, and the Little Cyclones were Class 5A, two classes above the Rams, showcasing their stiff competition.

Next on the docket for Rams volleyball, they are scheduled for a match against Grand View Christian on Sept. 12 at Faith Baptist College in Ankeny, with that match scheduled for 7:15 pm.
Then the Rams are expected to take part in a tournament featuring Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, Gladbrook-Reinbeck, Oelwein and South Hardin Sept. 14 at 9 am.
Rounding out their upcoming competition, the Rams will take part in a triangular against Panorama and South Central Calhoun, Sept. 17 at 5 pm.
