Grand Junction library to host program about Botswana

The enchanting land of Botswana as framed through the popular book series The No. 1 Ladies Private Detective Agency will be presented as a photo travelogue by Lillian Robinson on Sunday, Aug. 25, at 2 pm at the Grand Junction public library.

Author Alexander McCall Smith wrote the initial book in the series, The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, in 1998. He has since followed that with 23 more books, including Tears of the Giraffe, The Good Husband of Zebra Drive and The Double Comfort Safari Club. The books follow the foibles of a lively set of characters centered around Mma Precious Ramotswe, who sets up a private detective agency in Gaborone, the capital city of Botswana.

“Alexander McCall Smith’s books inspired me to travel to Botswana in 2018,” said Robinson. “My two-week trip was magical and I want to share that with others.”

She will use her photographs to highlight the people, the land and the amazing wildlife, along with special Botswanian refreshments: rooibos (red bush) tea and rusks (South African twice-baked cookies.)
