Have a cup of tea, learn about tiny towns at the museum

A third “Leafing through Greene County History” conversation will be held Sunday, Aug. 18, at 2 pm at the Greene County Historical Museum, 219 E. Lincoln Way, in Jefferson.

Two presenters will share items from the Historical Society’s collection of newspapers and other historical documents, and then audience members will be invited to chime in with their memories and thoughts on what they remember about three small Greene County towns, Adaza and Farlin in the north part of the county, and Angus to the east.

Once booming, the three towns are now unincorporated and have few residents..

Presenters, both of whom have leafed through the Historical Society’s collections to find facts and stories about the towns, are Nancy Hanaman of Rippey and Jed Magee of Jefferson.

The afternoon will end with a tea party — scones, clotted cream, jam, tiny sandwiches, cookies and, of course, tea in flowery china teacups.

The first “Leafing’” event was held in November 2022, and was so successful and enjoyable, said Historical Society program chair Margaret Hamilton, “that we decided to do it again.”

Tea time is limited to 30 persons. To reserve a seat at a pretty table set with pretty teacups, call 515-386-4408.
