Following are excerpts of daily activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:
Saturday, Aug. 31: At 8:02 am a deputy removed debris from the roadway in the 1600 block of U Ave in Junction Township. At 3:15 pm a deputy investigated a violation of a no contact order in the 1100 block of Livingston St in Churdan. At 6:03 pm a deputy assisted with a cow on the railroad tracks near J Ave and 230th St in Jackson Township.
Friday, Aug. 30: At 12:31 pm a deputy assisted with a horse on the roadway on J Ave near 260th St in Jackson Township. At 6:13 pm a deputy investigated a single vehicle accident on 130th St and P Ave in Dawson Township. Mitchell Nordin of Paton was eastbound on 130th St driving a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado and pulling a trailer with a skid loader. He lost control and entered the ditch, rolling the truck. The trailer and skid loader had no damage. At 7:14 pm a deputy investigated a violation of a no contact order in the 1100 block of Livingston St in Churdan. At 11:37 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 200 block of S. 19th St in Grand Junction.
Thursday, Aug. 29: At 8:02 am a deputy investigated a reported accident in the 1400 block of W Ave in Junction Township. The deputy found that a phone had fallen off a vehicle and self-reported an accident. At 10:08 am the sheriff, a deputy, and Grand Junction fire responded to a vehicle fire on N. 9th St near Hwy 30 in Grand Junction. A semi tractor-trailer was carrying a roll off container that had materials that started on fire. The container was a total loss. The truck was undamaged other than a melted tarp. At 4:08 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of cattle in a corn field in the 500 block of V Ave in Paton Township. At 6:47 pm a deputy assisted with a horse running at large near Hwy 30 and Oakland Ave east of Jefferson.
Wednesday, Aug. 28: At 2:05 pm Christian Riley, 33, of Carroll was booked into the jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance- two counts*. At 2:36 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 700 block of S. 11th St in Grand Junction.
Tuesday, Aug. 27: At 12:40 pm Bobby Mosley, 43, of Fort Dodge was booked into the jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia*. At 8:23 pm Bobby Hunt, 45, of Churdan was booked into the jail on charges of domestic abuse assault and disorderly conduct*. At 9:38 pm Alicia Ofelt, 37, of Churdan was booked into the jail on a charge of disorderly conduct*.
Monday, Aug. 26: At 12:17 am Travis Smith, 33, of Ralston was booked into the jail on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence- third offense and driving while license barred*. At 10:40 am Jason Smits, 42, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia*. At 11:53 am a deputy investigated a two-vehicle accident on the 144 diagonal and 1st St in Rippey. Rebecca Roorda, 69, of Ames was southbound on 1st St in a 2018 Ford F150. Roorda pulled from the stop sign and was struck by Larry Main, 63, of Moravia, who was driving a 2006 Town and County. Roorda was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device. Damage to her pickup truck was estimated at $3,500. Damage to Mains’ ‘minivan was estimated at $3,500. At 12:03 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 600 block of N. 11th St in Grand Junction. At 12:17 pm Dale Spaulding, 56, of Scranton was booked into the jail on a charge of harassment- third degree*. At 5:41 pm a deputy assisted with a tree branch in the power line in the 2200 block of Neola Ave in Franklin Township.
Sunday, Aug. 25: At 8:32 am a deputy investigated a sex offender registry violation in the 1000 block of State St in Scranton. At 12:20 pm Marcus Hill, 51, of Fort Dodge was booked into the jail on a charge of gambling avoid setoff and fraudulent practice- third degree*. At 11:12 pm the sheriff’s office, Scranton fire, and Greene County Ambulance responded to a single-vehicle fatal accident on 210th St and E Ave north of Scranton. Matthew Hopkins, 29, of Ralston was eastbound on 210th St driving a 1999 Chevrolet S-10 when he failed to negotiate a curve and rolled the vehicle. Hopkins was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. The accident is under investigation. Travis Smith, 33, of Ralston was following Hopkins and left the scene of the accident. Smith was arrested for operating while intoxicated- third offense and driving while license barred*.
Saturday, Aug. 24: At 10:08 pm the sheriff’s office, Greene County Ambulance, Churdan fire, Paton fire, and the Iowa State Patrol responded to a single-vehicle fatal accident on P Ave (E-18) near 130th St in Dawson Township. Kyle Shank, 31, of Paton died in the accident. The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the accident.
Friday, Sept. 23: At 2:07 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 400 block of S. 9th St in Grand Junction. At 9:13 pm a deputy assisted with a horse out on J Ave near 260th St in Jackson Township. At 10:33 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 200 block of S. 8th St in Grand Junction.
Thursday, Aug. 22: At 12:11 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out in the 2300 block of Redwood Ave in Franklin Township. At 6:20 pm Mitchell Venteicher, 39, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of violation of a no contact order*. At 6:26 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 200 block of S. 19th St in Grand Junction. At 9:14 pm Kyus Shineflew, 26, of Rippey was booked into the jail on a charge of driving while license barred*. At 9:47 pm a deputy and Churdan rescue responded to a single-vehicle rollover accident on M Avenue near Hwy 4 in Highland Township. Alexa Estlund, 23, of Iowa City lost control of a 2013 Kia Soul and enter the east ditch. The vehicle struck a driveway and rolled once. Estlund was transported by Churdan rescue with minor injuries. She was cited for failure to maintain control. The vehicle was a total loss.
Wednesday, Aug. 21: At 5:19 pm the Greene County sheriff’s office conducted a search warrant in the 200 block of Cartwright St in Rippey. Firearm parts were seized. At 9:16 pm Tracy Anderson, 50, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of disorderly conduct*. At 9:30 pm a deputy investigated a harassment threat in the 1200 block of W Ave in Junction east of Grand Junction.
Tuesday, Aug. 20: At 9:10 am a deputy investigated a scam in the 1600 block of 235th St west of Jefferson. At 9:36 am a deputy investigated a report of found firearms in the 700 block of Walnut St in Scranton. At 2:19 pm Audrie Lawrence, 24, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of probation violation*. At 6:19 pm Shawn Knudsen, 32, of Coon Rapids was booked into the jail on a charge of violation of a no contact order*.
Monday, Aug. 19: At 7:01 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 500 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction. At 8:37 pm a deputy arrested Jasper Scheuermann, 36, of Scranton for a probation violation arrest warrant out of Guthrie County*. At 10:39pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on I Ave near 170th St in Bristol Townshi. A juvenile was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado and struck a deer. The estimated damage to the truck is $4,000.
Sunday, Aug. 18: At 2:54 am Jeremy Andrews, 36, of Scranton was booked into the jail on a charge of driving while license barred*. At 7:51 pm Samantha Bergemann, 39, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence*.
Saturday, Aug. 17: At 5:11 pm a deputy investigated a single-vehicle accident in the 1800 block of 195th St in Hardin Township. Larry Kuhl, 60, of Jefferson lost control of his 2010 Chevrolet Silverado and struck a utility pole. There was minor damage to the truck and the pole. Kuhl had left the scene and was later found at this residence. At 7:49 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out on 237th St and Kirkwood Ave in Jackson Township.
Friday, Aug. 16: At 2:42 am a deputy attempted to catch a loose dog in the 1700 block of Hwy 30 east of Jefferson. At 2:41 pm a deputy assisted with a dog that was brought to the Community Animal Shelter from the 400 block of E. Paton St in Paton. At 2:43 pm a deputy attempted to locate three dogs running at large on Hwy 144 near 250th St south of Grand Junction. At 2:55 pm a deputy investigated a theft of a vehicle from the 1100 block of Sand St in Churdan. A juvenile was caught with the vehicle in Cherokee. At 6:37 pm the sheriff recovered a Skid Steer that was stolen from Illinois. At 11:50 pm Teresa Rivera, 34, of Jefferson was booked into the jail for attempted burglary- second degree*.
Thursday, Aug. 15: At 12:08 pm a deputy assisted with sheep out on Redwood Ave near S Ave in Grant Township. At 6:19 pm a deputy took a complaint of cattle missing near 170th Street and D Ave in Cedar Township. At 7:39 pm a deputy and Greene County Ambulance responded to a single-vehicle rollover accident on Quest Ave near 330th St in Franklin Township. Martin Palmer, 55, of Jamacia was southbound on Quest Ave driving a 2001 Ford Mustang when he lost control of the vehicle and entered the west ditch, rolling once. The vehicle is a total loss. Palmer was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence*. At 10:01 pm Mark Moore, 60, of Dayton was booked into the jail for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence*.
Wednesday, Aug. 14: At 12:46 am Steven Dzuris, 36, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on charges of public consumption, interference with official acts, and simulated intoxication*. At 8:11 am a deputy investigated an abandoned vehicle on 170th St near I Ave in Bristol Township. At 8:13 am the sheriff and deputies assisted by the Calhoun County sheriff’s office conducted a search warrant in the 900 block of 3rd St in Lohrville. Suspected controlled substances and stolen property were seized. Charges are pending.
Tuesday, Aug. 13: At 1:43 am Devin Holm-Morales, 28, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of violating a protective order*. At 2:39 am Christopher Lehrkamp, 38, of Scranton was booked into the jail on charges of driving while license denied or revoked and operating under the influence- 2nd offense*. At 7:20 am Kegan Claiser, 25, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of operation without an interlock device*. At 10:31 am a deputy investigated a complaint of illegal dumping in the 1400 block of I Ave in Jackson Township. At 3:03 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out in the 1600 block of L Ave in Jackson Township. At 10:09 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a foot pursuit and an arrest.
Monday, Aug. 12: At 11:17 am a deputy investigated a theft on Hwy 4 near K Ave east of Churdan. At 11:30 am a deputy investigated a complaint of identity theft in the 500 block of 5th St in Rippey. At 11:41 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out in the 1900 block of A Ave in Willow Township.
Sunday, Aug. 11: At 5:59 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident near 200th St and Hwy 144 north of Grand Junction. Matthew Meyer, 31, of Fort Dodge struck a deer with a 2023 Dodge Ram. Damage to the truck was estimated at $6,000. At 11:41 am a deputy and Greene County Ambulance responded to a single-vehicle accident in the 1100 block of H Ave in Bristol Township. A juvenile was injured riding a dirt bike.
Saturday, Aug. 10: At 9:26 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 1900 block of 130th St in Paton Township. A juvenile was charged with willful injury. Another juvenile was seriously injured and taken to the Emergency Room by private vehicle. At 12:45 pm the sheriff, deputies, Grand Junction fire and rescue, and Greene County Ambulance were called to a single-vehicle accident on Hwy 144 at 210th St north of Grand Junction. Danny Klein Sr, 75, of Fort Dodge was riding a 1992 Harley Davidson on Hwy 144 and entered the east ditch, hitting a driveway. Klein sustained fatal injuries. His motorcycle was totaled in the accident. At 3:34 pm a deputy and Jefferson fire department responded to a single-vehicle accident at Hwy 30 and M Ave west of Jefferson. Dakota Foster, 18, of Jefferson lost control of a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix and entered the west ditch on M Ave. The vehicle’s catalytic converter caught the dry ditch grass on fire, which started the car on fire. The vehicle was a total loss. At 7:02 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out on 280th Street and J Ave in Greenbrier Township. At 9:41 pm Joshua Parrish, 28, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of criminal mischief- fifth degree*.
Friday, Aug. 9: At 7:24 am a deputy assisted with cattle out on 305th St near P Ave in Franklin Township. At 10:22 am Abby Farrell, 21, of Carroll was booked into the jail on a charge of operating while intoxicated*. At 11:16 pm Breanna Mahers, 22, of Carroll was booked into the jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia*. At 11:16 pm James Pena, 26, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia*.
Thursday, Aug. 8: At 4:25 am Shawn Knudsen, 32, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of domestic abuse assault*. At 6:04 am a deputy investigated a suspicious vehicle in the 600 block of Main St in Scranton. At 11:14 am a deputy, Jefferson fire department, and Greene County Ambulance responded to a single-vehicle accident on Jordan Avenue near 237th St in in Jackson Township. Simon Jordan, 18, of West Des Moines was operating a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado and lost control, striking a tree. The vehicle was a total loss. Both the driver and a passenger were transported by Greene County Ambulance with injuries. Jordan was cited for careless driving, failure to maintain control, failure to file SR-22 insurance, operating without liability insurance- accident related, and driving while license suspended. At 4:22 pm deputies, Jefferson Fire Department, Iowa State Patrol, and Greene County Ambulance responded to a two-vehicle accident on Hwy 4 at 290th St in Franklin Township. Brandi Burrow, 29, of Jefferson was eastbound on 290th St operating a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Burrow failed to stop at the stop sign at Hwy 4 and struck a northbound 2014 Nissa Pathfinder operated by Bonnie Simpson, 71, of Sac City. Two passengers in Burrow’s vehicle were transported with minor injuries to Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Ambulance and two were transported to Dallas County Hospital by Greene County Ambulance. Damage to Burrow’s vehicle was estimated at $5,000. Damage to Simpson’s vehicle was estimated at $15,000. This accident is still under investigation. At 6:35 pm the sheriff, deputies, Jefferson fire department, Grand Junction fire department, and Greene County Ambulance searched for a missing person near 290th St and Hwy 4.
Wednesday, Aug. 7: At 10:05 am Steven Randall, 60, of Boone was booked into the jail on charges of intent to manufacture/deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance- third or subsequent offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia*. At 1:41 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 700 block of Bell St in Churdan. At 2:36 pm a deputy investigated a scam in the 700 block of Hill St in Churdan. At 2:49 pm Alexandra Thomas, 33, of Boone was booked into the jail on charges of intent to manufacture/deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia*. At 8:30 pm Linda Cleary, 54, of Grand Junction was booked into the jail on a charge of probation violation and driving while license barred*.
Tuesday, Aug. 6: At 2:39 am Michael Schwering, 53, of Fort Dodge was booked into the jail on a charge of trespass*. At 8:17 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out on the bike trail near the 1500 block of 252nd St south of Jefferson. At 9:04 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with locating a missing juvenile in the 600 block of W. Lincoln Way.
Monday, Aug. 5: At 3:41 pm the sheriff and deputies responded to a reported suicidal subject with a firearm in Grand Junction. At 7:44 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 900 block of Main St in Scranton.
Sunday, Aug. 4: At 12:44 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 600 block of N. 11th St in Grand Junction. At 6:17 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 500 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction.
Saturday, Aug. 3: At 8:02 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with an accident at Elm St and W. Lincoln Way. At 1:45 pm a deputy assisted a motorist on Hwy 144 near 175th south of Dana. At 2:47 pm a deputy investigated a violation of a no contact order in the 1900 block of R Ave in Franklin Township.
Friday, Aug. 2: At 12:29 am Jesse Sanders, 22, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on charges of arson- second degree, use of explosive materials, assault with a dangerous weapon, and harassment- first degree*. At 11:51 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 200 block of State St in Paton. At 2:18 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a crop duster spraying too close to a house in the 900 block of P Ave in Greenbrier Township. At 2:19 pm a deputy assisted with cattle on the railroad tracks near 230th St and J Ave in Jackson Township. At 10:12 pm a deputy placed a dog found in the 2000 block of B Ave in Willow Township in impound at the Community Animal Shelter. At 11:03 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment near 210th Street and Hwy 4 north of Jefferson. At 11:42 pm the sheriff assisted the Jefferson PD in responding to a complaint of a suspicious person in the 200 block of N. Cedar St.
Thursday, Aug. 1: At 7:17 am a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 2200 block of 185th St in Junction Township. At 8:54 am a deputy investigated a single-vehicle accident that occurred the day before. A juvenile lost control of a vehicle and hit a mailbox in the 2200 block of 185th Street. At 12:11 pm a deputy investigated a theft and a attempted theft of a vehicle near 305th St and P Ave in Franklin Township. At 1:27 pm the sheriff and deputies assisted the Jefferson PD with a report of two juveniles trying to get into a garage and a vehicle in the 400 block of S. Olive St in Jefferson. At 2:17 pm the sheriff and deputies assisted the Jefferson PD in responding to a vehicle stolen in the 200 block of W. Harrison St. At 2:43 pm the sheriff and deputies investigated an attempted vehicle theft near State and Locust Sts in Scranton. Two juveniles from the Clive area were arrested on Hwy 25 near 340th St in one of the stolen vehicles. Stolen property was recovered along with two stolen vehicles. At 7:53 pm a deputy assisted with cows on the bike trail in the 1500 block of 252nd St south of Jefferson.
