History of Iowa topic of Sunday museum program

Jeff Bremer, an Iowa State University (ISU) professor of history, will talk about his latest book, which takes a comprehensive look at Iowa history, Sunday, July 21, at 2 pm at the Greene County Historical Museum, 219 E. Lincoln Way in Jefferson.

The free program is sponsored by the Greene County Historical Society and the Jefferson public library.

“In A New History of Iowa,” says Bremer, “I’ve surveyed Iowa history from the last Ice Age to the end of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. I added new stories and themes to broaden and diversify our state’s history. And I’ve given new attention to issues such as the environment, immigration and racial justice.”

A reviewer in the July/August 2024 edition of The Iowa History Journal wrote that the book is a “meticulously researched and captivatingly written narrative that reads like a novel.”

Bremer teaches classes on the early American republic, Iowa history and social studies methods at ISU.

An autographed copy of the book will be given as a door prize at the end of the program. And, there will be refreshments.
