Greene County district court, week ending June 21

In Greene County district court Kenneth Joseph Bonnette, 37, of Scranton was sentenced June 19 to 10 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of assault- simple, amended from domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness. All but two days of the jail term was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He was fined $105 with a $15.75 surcharge. He must pay restitution not to exceed $300 for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $140 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)

Chelsey Williams, 21, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. She was placed on informal probation to the Greene County sheriff for one year. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. Williams must pay a $430 civil penalty, an amount not to exceed $750 for her court appointed attorney’s fees, and $100 court costs. A charge of possession of drug paraphernalia in magistrate court was dismissed. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Laryssa Shelbi Bushman, 29, of Scranton was sentenced to 30 days in jail after she pleaded guilty to a charge of assault- simple, amended from domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness. All but two days of the jail term was suspended and she was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. She was fined $105 with a $15.75 surcharge; court costs were $131.50. Nicholas John Parris, 41, of Boone was sentenced to one year in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of harassment- second degree, amended from harassment- first degree. All but 12 days of the jail term was suspended; they will be served consecutive to terms in other Greene County cases. He was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for two years. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Parris was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge; both were suspended. Court costs were $142.73. A charge in magistrate court of interference with official acts was dismissed. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Persons pleaded not guilty to charges as follows: Martel Alberto Lucatero Avena, 31, of Lincoln, NE, driving while license revoked; and Jeremy Ernest Andrews, 36, of Scranton, driving while license barred. Trial dates were set for Aug. 27 in both cases.

Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Shelby Marie McBride, 29, of Moville, theft- fourth degree; Ryan James Brown, 48, of Jefferson, driving while license barred; Alexander Scott Brant, 36, of Boone, child endangerment; Shelby Ann Perez, 29, of Scranton, domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness; Joshua David Paddock, 35, of Des Moines, possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense; and Abby Rose Paddock, 30, of Des Moines, possession of marijuana.
